The weakness, and even the laek, of entrepreneurship and iimovation-based engineering education activities in this system represents a very hmiting factor towards the establishment of entrepreneurial engineering schools in these countries that actively contribute to their economic and social development and welfare, and thereby to their integration in the knowledge-based economy in the framework of globalization. 

Myth 2 Social enterprises are non-profits. In fact, not all social enterprises are non-profits. Some are for-profit. Although still outside of mainstream social entrepreneurship, some for-profit startups include in their articles of incorporation clauses placing the need to be socially responsible equal to the need to return profits to shareholders. 

Many bioengineers selected their profession because they were interested in helping people. So it makes sense that bioengineers would be more inclined toward social entrepreneurship. While this inclination may be there, it may not be sufficient to make a bioengineer a successful social entrepreneur. 

In this list of attributes, no mention is made of a business degree. The reason is that in many business schools, the critical skills of social entrepreneurship are not taught. There is no formal education that is typical of the successftrl entrepreneur. However, there is one skill that is critical. 

However, many engineers are more comfortable sitting in the back of the classroom, tend to eat alone at conferences, sit quietly through clearly flawed diatribes, or have trouble (or worse yet, fear) convincing their neighbor to turn down the music. This tendency to shrink from social interaction, and particularly from social interactions that involve conflict, can undermine an engineer s ability to make the leap to social entrepreneurship.

Science and technology studies have become popular at many business schools, often in relation to programs in entrepreneurship and innovation. As a possible sign of the times, the 2012 meeting of the European and American societies for science, technology and society (The European Association for the Study of Science in Society, EASST, and the Society for the Social Study of Science, 4S) was held at the Copenhagen Business School.

The key documents of the CDIO approach have been updated. The CDIO Syllabus v2.0 has added two new sections on leadership and entrepreneurship, and given more emphasis to certain topics that were previously subsumed under other headings, for example, ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability. The CDIO Standards v2.0 now includes distinct rubrics for each standard to facilitate self-evaluation. The general structure of the chapters remains the same in that they parallel the CDIO Standards. The chapters on implementation, history of engineering, and outlook have also been updated sinee the first edition.
