The second dynamical capability of lasers, the ability to excite a large fraction of ground-state molecules to a selected quantum state, has hardly been applied to inorganic systems. To be sure, saturation of excited states by laser pulses is commonplace, but excitation to a selected vibronic level is rare. 

The last mentioned dynamical capability of lasers is in its infancy. It is possible in principle to make optical measurements which are analogous to coherent NMR measurements, and thereby to observe homogeneous linewidths in inhomogeneously broadened systems, to measure optical or vibrational Ti and T2 relaxation times directly, and to observe quantum recurrences.

The fourth chapter by Michalak and Ziegler presents an excellent introduction into DFT-based first principle molecular dynamics capable of modeling complex chemical reactions. In addition to the IRC functionality, gamess also has a direct dynamics capability, the dynamic reaction path, DRC [59]. This integration will require the development and implonentation of living property databases. Entities are dynamically modified and more information become available and existing data are updated. Gradually the steady state model has been enhanced with dynamic capabilities and connected to the mill data historian PI.
