FIGURE 6.4 Mean concentration of CB153 in pg/g pentane-extractable liquid (PEL) in whole fish from the Dutch Wadden Sea and the cellular fraction of the blood of harbor seals. Numbers of CBs are given in order of elution from the GC column by their systematic numbers according to lUPAC rules as proposed by Ballschmitter and Zell (1980). All concentrations are proportional to the height of the bar. (Reproduced from Boon et al. 1992. With permission.)... [Pg.138]

Figure 2 shows their geographical position, except for the Rozel Point oil which comes from the Uinta basin in Utah, USA, and the mud samples from the Dutch Wadden Sea. The occurrence and possible significance of several suites of organic compounds isolated from a number of recent sediments have been reported by us over the last years. Firstly, results of this work will be critically evaluated and secondly, a few new compounds series and analytical approaches are discussed. [Pg.36]

One of the most fruitful developments was the concept of the unidirectional transport of particles by oscillatory or intermittent currents. The onshore movement of fine-grained suspended sediment has been discussed for the U. S. Atlantic coast by Meade (1969) and Hathaway (1972), and for the Dutch Wadden Sea by Postma (1961). The unidirectioneil transport of sand by tidal currents has been documented in a variety of coastal environments by the form and migration of bed forms (Guilcher, 1967 Salsman et ai, 1966 Jones et al., 1965 Belderson and Kenyon, 1969 Caston and Stride, 1970 Ludwick, 1972 Stride, 1974 Bokuniewicz et al., 1977). [Pg.108]

Cadee and Hegeman (1977) found, nevertheless, that annual primary production of the benthic microflora in sediments of the Dutch Wadden Sea showed a good correlation with the annual average functional chlorophyll a content of the sediment. [Pg.35]
