Durability properties heat stability

The list of suitable applications also includes a variety of special-purpose systems, especially where high lightfastness and durability, but also high heat stability or other perfect fastness properties are a prime concern. This is true, for instance, for coatings to be applied onto aluminum window blinds. Bilaterally coated, usually in pastel colors, these aluminum strips are baked at 250°C or less and subsequently subjected to considerable mechanical stress. [Pg.534]

In practice, durability refers to how well the formulation holds up to environmental stresses. The properties of interest are the formulation s heat stability toward processing temperatures, its fade and weather resistance, its resistance toward migration into various solvents, and its chemical resistance toward alkali, acid, and bleach (strong oxidizing agents). [Pg.321]

Several other tests are used to correlate properties with the working conditions. The dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) is used to measure modulus and viscoelastic properties related to ductility. By using the DMA test method, the degradation in modulus could be imderstood and applied to the end use application. The effect of the environmental conditions is also tested the esthetic durability in heated environments is not restricted to warp and relaxation attributed to creep. Creep and stress relaxation tests are also done on SMC/BMC for their structural applications. The retention of color is critical for a heated appliance application. BMC/SMC can be formulated to offer excellent color stability when exposed to high temperatures. [Pg.293]

The shade displayed is reported " to vary from bordeaux through reddish violet to reddish blue by simple changes of the substituent R. The new pigments are claimed to possess better heat stability and durability properties than those of the quinacridones, while exhibiting up to three times their color strength. [Pg.194]

Many of the most durable pigments are metal oxides. Because they are relatively unreactive, properties such as heat stability and light stability, chemical inertness, and bleeding and other forms of migration, are usually good. These properties are often improved by calcining to remove impurities. [Pg.141]

Significant pigment attributes are tinctorial strength, durability (photochemical stability), biding power, transparency, and heat and solvent resistance. Other properties include brightness (saturation), gloss, rheology, crystal stability, bleed resistance, flocculation resistance, and other properties associated... [Pg.21]

They impart enhanced durability or permanence on PVC products, hence the name permanent plasticizers. Another group of plasticizers known as epoxy plasticizers is derived from vegetable oils. An example is epoxidized soybean. These plasticizers confer heat and hght stability on PVC products, which, however, usually have relatively poor low-temperature properties. [Pg.236]

This section will cover physical properties, chemical properties, and flammability. Included in physical properties are tensile properties and dimensional stability at various temperatures in dry and moist environments, shrinkage properties, moisture uptake, and durability or wear resistance. Chemical properties cover resistance to sunlight, chemical and biological agents, and heat. The subsection on modification of properties addresses these property deficiencies and discusses progress made toward their improvement. [Pg.905]
