Duplex printing

Libraries for siRNA screening can be obtained from several commercial sources and can be pre-designed or custom designed. Libraries can come as a pool of several (usually four) siRNA or as individual RNA duplexes. Some libraries come in a 96-well format and will have to be converted to 384-well format for daughter plate preparation and subsequent printing. 

Lucarelli et al. describe a disposable indicator-free screen-printed genosensor applied to the detection of apoE sequences in PCR samples [26]. The biosensor format involved the immobilization of an inosine-modified (guanine-free) probe onto a SPE transducer and the detection of the duplex formation in connection with the square-wave voltammetric measurement of the guanine oxidation peak of the target sequence. 

The basis of contemporary microarray technology is printing known oligonucleotide sequences in predefined positions onto the array surface, which then capture the labeled complementary strands from the sample, following the complementarity rules (duplex forming and hybridization). After hybridization, the original amount of mRNA molecules can be estimated from the signal intensity of the captured/hybridized molecules. In the case of the microscope slide-based microarrays (also referred to as cDNA microarray), presynthesized complementary DNA molecules are attached to a solid surface [40]. 

Business Uses. The supermarket bar-code scanner was one of the earliest laser applications-it appeared in 1974. Laser printers are ubiquitous in all but the smallest business offices. They range in price from less than 100 to more than 10,000. The higher-priced models have features such as duplexing capability, color, high-speed printing, and collating.
