Dry short tons

At the peak of its operation in 1980, the mine had 900 employees. The orebody was mined by conventional open-pit, truck-and-shovel methods. A total of 400 million dry short tons (364 million metric tons) was removed, and processed for recovery of copper and molybdenum. An additional 600 million short tons (545 million metric tons) of overburden were excavated, resulting in an oval pit that was 7,900 feet (2,408 meters) long, 3,500 feet (1,067 meters) wide, with a bottom elevation 1,322 feet (403 meters) below sea level. The operation had two unique features Mill tailings were deposited below the ocean surface in Prince Rupert Inlet, and a plastic concrete seepage barrier, 4,000 feet (1,219 meters) long, 108 feet (33 meters) deep, but only 2.8 feet (0.86 meters) wide, was installed along the original shoreline of the inlet.

It has generally been reported that corn stover removal rates of 30-40% could be sustainable over most corn acres (Nelson et al., 2004 Gregg and Izaurralde, 2010, Perlack et al., 2011). However, corn stover removal at a rate of 30-40% is often not economically viable. The emerging biorefining industry has estimated minimum removal rates of two dry short tons (DST) per acre for system economics to support corn stover removal operations. 

Production and consumption of wood products and residues are measured ia various units, based on common usage and their metric equivalents (2—4). Pulpwood logs and fuelwood are commonly measured ia cords. A cord refers to a stacked pile of wood, with outside dimensions of 4 by 4 by 8 ft (1.22 by 1.22 by 2.44 m) and a volume of 128 ft (3.62 m ). The weight of a cord depends on density of wood and bark and on moisture content. In the United States, it can range from 1.3 to 1.7 short tons (1.2 to 1.5 metric tons), air dried. 

Lead at a lightly contaminated brownfield site has a concentration in soil of 600 mg/kg to a depth of 1 ft. The cleanup standard has been set at 400 mg/kg. Indian mustard, Bmssica juncea, will be planted, fertilized, and harvested three times each year for phytoextraction. Using small doses of EDTA, it is possible to achieve concentrations in the plant of 5000 mg/kg (dry weight basis), and harvestable densities of 2.721 (3 short tons) dry matter per crop. International trade of phosphate rock is based on dry metric tons, whereas U.S. domestic sales are in short tons, on a dry or as is moisture basis. Specifications for purchased rock may address grade, particle size, moisture content, and chemical impurities such as CaO, MgO, Si02, Al203, Fe203, F, Cl, Na20, and KjO. The content of organic material and heavy metals is also of importance. 

The 1984 approval of 100 percent HFCS as a sweetener in soft drinks resulted in phenomenal growth in the HFCS industry. In 1985, HFCS production was 5.3 million short tons (dry weight) and in 2000, it was 9.3 million... 

United States, it can range from 1.3 to 1.7 short tons (1.2 to 1.5 metric tons), air dried. 

Power Consumption. A previous report (2) showed the power consumption of the pellet mill as a function of throughput. Subsequent work has shown there were errors in these measurements and the result is hereby withdrawn. Later work, using processed office waste with added moisture (75% of the samples contained 10 - 30 wt%, 22% of the samples contained 30 - 50 wt%, and the remainder 10 wt%) showed that the relationship between power consumption P(kW), and feedrate to the densifier F (short tons/h, dry wt basis), could be represented by P = 50.5F + 21.7, for 63 determinations, 0.3 < F < 1.7 Mg/h, with a correlation coefficient r = 0.964 and a standard error of the regression line of 5.7. The intercept should be equal to the idling power of the machine which was separately measured as 24 kW. There was no discernible relationship between power consumption and moisture content. 

Typically, recycled paper sludge is made up of approximately 50% cellulose, 10 % hemicellulose and 40 % other materials, and has a moisture content of about 60%. For example, with a dry ton of recovered paper for repulping, there is about 0.15 to 0.2 ton of dry short fibers generated. The wet weight of RPS will be up to 0.5 ton including water, short fiber and other solids known as fillers. Because of its high fiber content, RPS is the type of material that can be effectively utilized and converted into ethanol. The ideal method of producing ethanol from RPS is to use the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) process. 

The Work Index is claimed to be capable of predicting the power for a ball mill of 8 ft (2.43 m) in diameter in closed circuit wet grinding. In dry grinding applications, the value of WI has to be multiplied by an empirical constant of 1.3. The Work Index is also supposed to represent the energy in kWh required to reduce one short ton (907 kg) of mineral from a theoretical infinite size to a size distribution at which 80% is smaller than 100 microns. 

The United States produces about 1.6 million short tons of dry beans annually and the leading states, by rank, are Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Idaho, and California. ...
