Dry process of mixing

Segregation. Partial re-separation of a previously mixed batch of material into its constituents this can occur either as a result of differences in particle size or in density. Segregation is liable to occur in storage bins, on conveyors and in feeders during the dry or semi-dry processing of ceramic materials. 

The derivatives are hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl cellulose. AH four derivatives find numerous appHcations and there are other reactants that can be added to ceUulose, including the mixed addition of reactants lea ding to adducts of commercial significance. In the commercial production of mixed ethers there are economic factors to consider that include the efficiency of adduct additions (ca 40%), waste product disposal, and the method of product recovery and drying on a commercial scale. The products produced by equation 2 require heat and produce NaCl, a corrosive by-product, with each mole of adduct added. These products are produced by a paste process and require corrosion-resistant production units. The oxirane additions (eq. 3) are exothermic, and with the explosive nature of the oxiranes, require a dispersion diluent in their synthesis (see Cellulose ethers). 

Small, complex-shaped glass articles such as thread guides for the textile industry and television gun mounts for the electronics industry are made by the multiform process. The dry-milled powder is mixed with an inorganic binder and a fluid vehicle, and then atomi2ed by a spray dryer into small, dried agglomerates of glass powder and binder with good flow characteristics. They are subsequently pressed to the desired shape and fired. 

Coconut. In 1988, total coconut production was 36,802,000 t, of which 81% was produced in Asia, mainly in Indonesia and the Philippines (157). The coconut is essentiaUy a crop of the lowland tropics (157). On the average, five nuts are required to produce 1 kg of copra, the dried endosperm of the nut. Copra is further processed to obtain coconut oil and copra meal. To produce coconut milk, which is an emulsion of coconut oil and water, grated fresh coconut meat is mixed with hot water and pressed (157). Either poles having an attached sickle-shaped knife or monkeys (158) may be used for harvesting. 

Iron Browns. Iron browns are often prepared by blending red, yellow, and black synthetic iron oxides to the desired shade. The most effective mixing can be achieved by blending iron oxide pastes, rather than dry powders. After mixing, the paste has to be dried at temperatures around 100°C, as higher temperatures might result in the decomposition of the temperature-sensitive iron yellows and blacks. Iron browns can also be prepared directiy by heating hydrated ferric oxides in the presence of phosphoric acid, or alkaU phosphates, under atmospheric or increased pressure. The products of precipitation processes, ie, the yellows, blacks, and browns, can also be calcined to reds and browns. 

Portland cement is manufactured by two basic processes, the wet process and the dry process. The dry process uses approximately 25% less energy per ton of Portland cement and is used to produce about 68% of the U.S. Portland cement. Both processes start by mixing selected raw materials, cmshed and/or milled to approximately s in. (1.9 cm) diameter, in the correct ratios to give the final desired chemical composition.
