Drift zone

Individual s feeding range divided into com, drift zone, and other habitat 1 day... [Pg.19]

After focusing the accelerating potential (V) is applied for a much shorter period than that used for ion production ca 100 nsec) so that all the ions in the source are accelerated almost simultaneously. The ions then pass through the third electrode into the drift zone and are then collected by the sensor electrode. The velocity of the ions after acceleration will be inversely proportional to the square root of the ion mass. With modern ion optics and Fourier transform techniques Erickson et al. (6) could sum twenty spectra per second for subsequent Fourier transform analysis. The advantage of the time of flight mass spectrometer lies in the fact that it is directly and simply compatible with direct desorption from a surface, and thus can be employed with laser desorption and plasma desorption techniques. [Pg.388]

A Time-of-Flight (TOF) mass spectrometer uses the differences in transit time through a flight/drift zone to separate ions of different masses. The principle is that smaller ions, being lighter, will reach the detector faster than heavier ions. It operates in a pulsed mode so ions must be produced or extracted in pulses. An electric field is used to accelerate all... [Pg.44]

Where mfz is mass-to-charge ratio of the separated ion, E is the extraction pulse potential, s is the length of the flight tube over which E is applied, d is the length of the field free drift zone and finally, t is the recorded time-of-flight of the ion. [Pg.327]

In order to increase the breakdown voltage of power MOSFETs, the thickness of the device, that is, the thickness of the ngpi has to be increased. The drawback of a thicker drift zone is an increase of the on-state resistance Rds(oii). which can only be compensated... [Pg.470]

Drift velocity The velocity of the air as it drifts from a high-pressure zone to a low-pressure zone in a building. [Pg.1431]

Effective drift velocity The velocity re suiting from air flowing from one zone to another due to a pressure differential. [Pg.1432]

Pressure depressions The differences in air pressure between zones necessary to stop contaminant drift. [Pg.1468]

The oxygen vacancies then diffuse to the gas interface where they are annihilated by reaction with adsorbed oxygen. The important point, however, is that metal is consumed and oxide formed in the same reaction zone. The oxide drift has thus only to accommodate the net volume difference between the metal and its equivalent amount of oxide. In theory this net volume change could represent an increase or a decrease in the volume of the system, but in practice all metal oxides in which anionic diffusion predominates have a lower metal density than that of the original metal. There is thus a net expansion and the oxide drift is away from the metal. [Pg.271]

Where conditions can be allowed to drift, within the general limits of human comfort, see Figure 23.8, or any similar zone which is acceptable to a majority of the occupants. Such standards of air-conditioning are generally termed comfort cooling. [Pg.300]
