Domed head

Hemispherical, ellipsoidal and torispherical heads are collectively referred to as domed heads. They are formed by pressing or spinning large diameters are fabricated from formed sections. Torispherical heads are often referred to as dished ends. [Pg.816]

The preferred proportions of domed heads are given in the standards and codes. [Pg.816]

Design equations and charts for the various types of domed heads are given in the codes and standards and should be used for detailed design. The codes and standards cover both unpierced and pierced heads. Pierced heads are those with openings or connections. The head thickness must be increased to compensate for the weakening effect of the holes where the opening or branch is not locally reinforced (see Section 13.6). [Pg.818]

Formed domed heads are made with a short straight cylindrical section, called a flange or skirt Figure 13.10. This ensures that the weld line is away from the point of discontinuity between the head and the cylindrical section of the vessel. [Pg.819]

This shows the inefficiency of a flat cover. It would be better to use a flanged domed head. [Pg.822]

The RPV consists of a vertical steel cylinder closed at each end by a domed head. The lower head is Integral with the cylinder, while the upper head Is removable and Is retained by bolts. [Pg.37]

The Mark 11 primary containment consists of a steel dome head and either a post-tensioned concrete wall or reinforced concrete wall standing on a base mat of reinforced concrete. The inner surface of the containment is lined with a steel plate that acts as a leak-tight membrane. The dr3rwell, in the form of a frustum of a cone or a truncated cone, is located directly above the suppression pool. The suppression chamber is cylindrical and separated from the dr3rwell by a reinforced concrete slab. The drywell is topped by an elliptical steel dome called a dr3rwell head. The drywell inerted atmosphere is vented into... [Pg.801]

The pin heads were found to be in the form of short circular cylinders with domed heads, as shown in Figure 3. The mean volume of the pin-heads was found to be about 0.9 mm. ... [Pg.278]
