Diving work

The distance between the structure and fixed impressed current anodes is an important factor. The number of anodes has to be small so the anodes need to be relatively large, which will result in too negative a potential if the distance is not sufficiently great. A minimum distance of 1.5 m is prescribed [1-3], but this involves considerable construction effort due to the effects of heavy seas. Besides the so-called restriction on impressed current installations, there is the requirement that the corrosion protection be switched off when diving work is being carried out [14]. This regulation is not justifiable. Work on the underwater region of production platforms takes place continuously, as far as the weather allows if the protection must be switched off each time, the impressed current protection becomes very limited.

All commercial diving work should be carried using equipment that is maintained as part of a planned maintenance system and suitable for the work in hand. While DWR 1997 does not exclude the use of Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA), the need to provide communications between the diver and the surface as well the requirements for an independent air supply reserve tend to reduce the benefit of SCUBA and actively encourage the diving contractor to adopt a Surface Supplied Diving Equipment (SSDE) spread.

Acetylene, nitrous oxide, cyclopropane, and ethylene have a significant anesthetic effect. As discovered during deep-sea diving work under high pressure, the noble gases, possibly with the exception of helium, also have a mildly anesthetic or narcotic effect at high pressures.

Dr. Joseph Macinnis has a medical degree, but he does not work in a clinic, a hospital, or a typical doctor s office. His office is the ocean, and he is an expert in deep-sea diving. There is another message of warning. The heroic and macho, "I ll do it my way," can lead to both psychological problems and physical risks. As with scuba diving, always work with a partner. 

I know well that ignorant laborators whioh do all their work aooording to custom, without diving any further into the nature of things, will count me a heretic because I teach that the aquafortis made of vitriol and saltpetre is of the same nature and condition as the spiritus nitri which is made without vitriol.
