Substituted urea compounds are often used as accelerators for DICY cure, specifically 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-l,l-dimethylurea (Monuron) and the 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl) derivative (Diuron). This introduces a further level of complexity to the curing mechanism. Son and Weber 62) showed that Monuron could dissociate to form dimethyl-amine and 4-chlorophenylisocyanate and that this is facilitated by the reaction of DICY with the isocyanate to form a carbanilinoguanidine ... 

Urea herbicides. Phenyl urea chemistry represents one of the earliest classes of herbicides. Replacement of the aromatic chlorines of diuron with a trifluoro-methyl group resulted in improved crop selectivity. Fluometuron (Cotoran ) and parafluron are both selective urea herbicides, fluometuron developed for the control of grass and broadleaf weeds in cotton. It was prepared from the corresponding 3-trifluoromethyl anilines. A number of other phenyl urea herbicides were introduced later, including trimefluor, 3-chloro-4-trifluoromethoxyphenyl-A/,A/-dimethyl urea [19].

The most important substances of this group are l,l-dimethyl-3-phenylurea (fenuron, 5) 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea, (monuron, 6) 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1 -dimethylurea (diuron,7) 1,1 -dimethyl-3-(a,a,a-trifluoro-m-tolyl)urea (fluometuron, 8) l,l-dimethyl-3-( ,a,a-trifluoro-p-tolyl)urea (para-fluron, 9) 3-(3-chloro-/j-tolyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (chlortoluron, 10) 3-(3-chloro-4-methoxyphenyl)-l,l-dimethylurea (metoxuron, 11) 3-[(4-chlorophenoxy)phenyl]-... 

Numerous herbicides are known to inhibit photosystem II (PS II) - dependent electron transport. The values for inhibition by selected pyridazinones of electron transport in isolated barley chloroplasts are shown in Table I. The value for diuron [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethyl urea] may be used to relate these results to those in other literature.

Dichlorophenyl-dimethyl urea, DCMU, Diuron, 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-l,l-dimethylurea, N -(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N,N-dimethyluTaK a systemic herbicide which blocks electron transport from photosystem II to photosystem I (see Photosynthesis). It is absorbed principally by the roots then translocated ac-ropetally in the xylem.
