Propane, 1,3-Dichloro

Owing to the mutagenicity of 1,2-dichloroethane, we recommend to replaced this solvent by less hazardous 1,2-dichloro-propane. Both solvents are equally suitable for the reactions described herein.

Tewari, Sheridan, and Martire have extended their n-alkane work to halogeno-alkane solute + n-alkane solvent. The activity coefficients of these systems increase with increasing number of halogen atoms. For example, the activity coefficients at infinite dilution for solutes 1-chlorobutane, 1,2-dichloro-propane, and 1,2,3-trichloropropane in solvent n-tetracosane at 349 K are 0.875, 1.114, and 1.571 respectively.
