The plastici2er performance of isopropylphenyl diphenyl phosphate [28108-99-8], [68937-41-7], [68782-95-6], C2 H2 04P, is close to that of tricresyl phosphate. It is made from the product of isopropylation of phenol by propylene. The phosphate is a mixture of mainly 0- and -isomers and contains a distribution of different levels of alkylation (101,102). 

Tests in pure water, river water, and activated sludge showed that commercial ttiaryl phosphates and alkyl diphenyl phosphates undergo reasonably facile degradation by hydrolysis and biodegradation (163—165). The phosphonates can undergo biodegradation of the carbon-to-phosphoms bond by certain microorganisms (166,167). 

Tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate shows good compatibiUty with PVC and also imparts good low temperature performance in addition to good fire retardancy. 2-Ethyhexyl diphenyl phosphate has widespread use in dexible PVC appHcations due to its combination of properties of plasticizing efficiency, low temperature performance, migration resistance, and fire retardancy. 

PVB resins are also compatible with a limited number of plasticizers and resins. Plasticizers (qv) improve processibility, lower T, and increase flexibihty and resiUency over a broad temperature range. Usehil plasticizers include dibutyl and butyl benzyl phthalates, tricresyl and 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphates, butyl ricinoleate, dibutyl sebacate, dihexyl adipate, triethylene glycol di-2-ethylbutyrate, tetraethylene glycol diheptanoate, castor oil, and others (64-73).
