Tricresyl phosphate (a complex mixture containing tri-o, Xn-m-, and tri-para-cresyl phosphate that is used in certain hydraulic fluids) and TOCP are demonstrated testicular toxicants in rodents (Carlton et al. 1987 Somkuti et al. 1987a, 1987b). Tricresyl phosphate also has been shown to impair in vivo fertility in rats and mice (Carlton et al. 1987 Chapin et al. 1988a). In addition, tricresyl phosphate-treated female rats displayed vacuolar cytoplasmic alteration of ovarian interstitial cells (Carlton et al. 1987 NTP 1994). Reproductive effects have also been seen after oral exposure to butylated triphenyl phosphate (Latendresse et al. 1994b). [Pg.185]

Tetraphenyl tellurium was similarly obtained in 34% yield from triphenyl telluronium iodide and phenyl lithium1,5. Solutions of tetramethyl tellurium were prepared from trimethyl telluronium iodide and methyl lithium3. The formation of butyl triphenyl tellurium was claimed in a reaction of triphenyl telluronium iodide and butyl lithium4. Equimolar amounts of triphenyl telluronium chloride and 3,3-bis[chloromercuro]-2,4-pentadione in refluxing methanol produced 3-[chloromercuro]-2,4-dioxopent-3-yl triphenyl tellurium6. [Pg.712]

X-Hydroxy-1 lot, 15triphenyl-phosphonium bromide in a dry nitrogen atmosphere in 6.0 ml dry dimethyl sulfoxide wasadded 3.24 ml (6.5 mmols) of a 2.0M solution of sodium methylsulfinylmethide in dimethyl sulfoxide. To this red ylide solution was added dropwise a solution of 613 mg (1.29 mmols) 2-[50 -hydroxy-30 -(tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy)-2/3-(30 -tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy-4-phenoxy-trans-1-buten-1-yl)cyclopent-10 -yll acetaldehyde, 7-hemiacetal in 5.0 ml dry dimethyl sulfoxide over a period of 20 minutes. [Pg.1431]

Compound 32 was prepared in four steps from 4-hydroxy-2-butanone (36). Protection of the alcohol ftmction of 36, as a tetrahydropyranyl (THP) ether 37, was acconqjlished with dihydropyran (DHP) and NH4CI catalyst in refluxing THF (24). Wittig reaction of 37 with the ylide from butyl(triphenyl)phosphonium bromide (n-BuLi, THF) resulted in alkylidenation to form 38, but the yield was less than 5%, even with dropwise addition of the ylide to the aldehyde at -78 . Removal of the THP group, followed by oxidation of the alcohol directly to the acid under neutral conditions (PDC in DMF, 33) afforded 32. Mild oxidation conditions are required to prevent migration of the double bond from the 3-position to the 2-position. [Pg.37]

Acetyl chlotide is reduced by vatious organometaUic compounds, eg, LiAlH (18). / fZ-Butyl alcohol lessens the activity of LiAlH to form lithium tti-/-butoxyalumium hydtide [17476-04-9] C22H2gA102Li, which can convert acetyl chlotide to acetaldehyde [75-07-0] (19). Triphenyl tin hydtide also reduces acetyl chlotide (20). Acetyl chlotide in the presence of Pt(II) or Rh(I) complexes, can cleave tetrahydrofuran [109-99-9] C HgO, to form chlorobutyl acetate [13398-04-4] in about 72% yield (21). Although catalytic hydrogenation of acetyl chlotide in the Rosenmund reaction is not very satisfactory, it is catalyticaHy possible to reduce acetic anhydride to ethylidene diacetate [542-10-9] in the presence of acetyl chlotide over palladium complexes (22). Rhodium trichloride, methyl iodide, and ttiphenylphosphine combine into a complex that is active in reducing acetyl chlotide (23). [Pg.81]
