Few microorganisms like Rhodococcus rubber and Nocardia corrallina produce a copolymer, PHB-co-PHV even in the absence of typical HV precursors such as propionate or valerate in the feed. These organisms produce PHA from simple su rs using a methylmalonyl CoA pathway in which 3HV monomer is derived fiom acetyl-CoA and propionyl-CoA where propionyl CoA is the product of methylmalonyl CoA pathway. In this pathway, succinyl-CoA is converted to methylmalonyl-CoA, which is decarboxylated to propioityl-CoA. [Pg.204]
