Different Levels of Information Sharing

In Table 7.2, one can see the different levels of information sharing according to the relationship type that exist between supplier and customer. 

Here the strategic alliance is the strongest relationship between buyer and supplier as well as between supplier and customer, and it requires a high level of information sharing. Different methods to determine the relationships between customers or suppliers have already been discussed in detail in both CMl and CM2. In this table, these relationship types are linked to the level of information sharing with customers and suppliers alike.

Since four scenarios represent different levels of information sharing. Table 8.8 shows the impacts of sharing information on SCP. For example, by reducing the quantity uncertainty from U(0, 0.3) to (7(0, 0.1) and the time uncertainty from 17(0, 7) to (7(0, 3), the total cost under the Kanban strategy can be reduced from 7357.1 thousand to 2381.5 thousand, and the CSL can be improved from 0.35899 to 0.68952. The highest SCP can be achieved at the highest information sharing level.

The vertical axis in Figure 27.1 reflects different levels of information capture along the supply chain. Single company data (Level I) expands to take into account the cost of capital (Level II). This includes the fixed assets and working capital required by the company to operate. At Level III, companies share cost data to gain a multicompany view. At Level IV, the final stage, cost drivers are applied to activity-based costs to develop supply chain product costs. These costs support collaborative strategic product line decisions at a multicompany level. 

This analysis helps to shows the connection between supplier and customer relationships and the level of information sharing. It is not thought to be all encompassing, but much rather to show an example on how to determine the level of information sharing between the different supplier and customer relationships. 

They first chose to filter Fig. (11.6) with the long list of corrective actions for Supply Chain Governance . Thereby they identified 14 different corrective actions which could aU be helpfiil to improve their level of information sharing,... 

Plant-specific data are frequently unavailable or are low in their level of confidence. Further, this source of data cannot provide information on equipment not in use at the plant, nor can it do more than suggest how plant equipment might behave under different circumstances. Since data collection is very difficult, using shared or generic data is one way of resolving these problems without the expense of extensive data collection systems. 

The approach to exposure assessment is not as internationally harmonized as hazard assessment. A synopsis of current activities regarding exposure assessment for industrial chemicals in a number of OECD Member countries has been published (OECD 2006). The executive summary of this document states that while there is a significant level of sharing of approaches used for hazard characterization for risk assessment, this is not the case for exposure characterization. Although broad consistency in the overall approaches used by different countries in conducting exposure assessment exists, there is variation in policy-related factors, including the regulatory context for assessment and the way that information is applied, as well as in the types of approaches and tools used.
