Diethylaminoethyl-dextran

Newer 2-diethylaminoethyl ethers, such as 0-( 2-diethylaminoethyl )-agarose gels," are useful as media for electrophoresis and immunoelec-trophoresis, and the 2-diethylaminoethyl derivative of O-(2-hydroxy-propyl ) cross-linked dextran (Sephadex LH20) is an effective, lipophilic anion-exchanger. The relative stiffness of the molecular chain of 0-(2-diethylaminoethyl) dextran has been estimated from measurements of viscosity at various ionic strengths, and compared with that of other polysaccharide polycations and polyanions. 0-(2-Diethylaminoethyl) dextran itself is claimed to be toxic." ... [Pg.323]

Similar delivery systems have been designed using other cationic polymers, including lipopolyamines (161), amphipathic peptides (162), polylysine lipids (163), cholesterol (164), quaternary ammonium detergents (165), polyamidoamines called dendrimers, polyethylenimines or chitosan, diethylaminoethyl dextran (DEAE dextran), and polybrene. [Pg.252]

Other chemical inducers, such as pyran copolymers, tilorone, diethylaminoethyl dextran, and heparin, also have been used. Tilorone is an effective inducer of interferon in mice, but it is relatively ineffective in humans. Initial use of interferon and its inducers instilled intranasally after rhinovirus exposure was successful in the prevention of respiratory diseases. The clinical success of interferon and its inducers has not yet been established, although they may play a significant role in cell-mediated immunity to viral infections and cancer. Disadvantages of interferon use include unacceptable side effects, such as fever, headache, myalgias, leukopenia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension, alopecia, anorexia, and weight loss. [Pg.1867]

Some single-strand RNAs, for example poly I, poly C, yeast RNA when in the presence of relatively large amounts of polybasic substances such as diethylaminoethyl dextran, poly-L-lysine, protamine, histone or methylated albumin, could induce interferon production in cells, but much higher concentrations of RNA were required than of the double-stranded variety [121, 122]. There is some recent evidence that a single-stranded virus RNA will induce interferon even without potentiation [123]. [Pg.135]

In a variation of the above process, a water soluble monomer A is adsorbed on water-immiscible solvent droplets dispersed in the aqueous solution of A and then polymerized to form closed shell structure. For example, cross-linked polysaccharide capsules with diameters ranging from 200 nm to several microns and wall thicknesses of several tens of nanometers have been fabricated by interfacial polymerization of methacrylated N,N-diethylaminoethyl dextran (DdexMA) [212]. In a typical method of preparation of DdexMA (see Figure 5.85), a mixture of N,N-diethylaminoethyl dextran (Ddex),... [Pg.673]
