Diaphragm sheets

Diaphragm forming uses additional diaphragm sheet behind material to give better control of thickness distribution. 

A sheet of rubber or of rubber-textile composite moulded, if desired, to a particular shape and used in a wide variety of applications in industry, e.g., diaphragm packings, diaphragm-operated valves for steam, air or liquids. 

Films, sheets, thin and flexible membranes, diaphragms... 

Burst Diqphragm or Burst Disc(Blowout Diaphragm or Rupture Disc). A flat circular sheet of frangible material (plastic or metal) installed across the pipe suppling liquid propellant to the thrust chamber of a rocket. The purpose of the disc is to prevent flow of liquid until proplnt pressure builds to a preselected value. The disc then shears open and the proplnt is released to flow... 

To be more exact, the distance from the lamp to the instrument should be such that the image of the point of a wire placed immediately before the source of light is formed sharply on a sheet of white paper supported at the diaphragm of the analyser in any event, however, such distance should not be less than 15 cm. in order that the heat of the lamp may neither damage the optical parts of the apparatus nor alter the experimental results. 

In place of monel metal, other materials may be substituted, the most economical being steel. Supported within the pot by a lid of sheet copper is a diaphragm in which fluorine collects. It is made from 2-in. copper tubing, is insulated from the lid by Portland cement, and has near its base three openings about in. square. 

The section of H-in. tubing which runs through the insulator acts both as an electrical connection to the anode and as an exit for the fluorine. A piece of 0.0032-in. sheet nickel 3K in- square rolled into a cylinder serves as an electrode, and it is bolted to the center of a disc of copper which covers the bottom of, and is firmly fastened to, the diaphragm. With such a combination, fluorine is liberated on the nickel but not on the copper. A thermometer well of copper tubing is fastened to the cover of the pot. 

Another alternative is the autoredox reaction. D-Gluconic acid and D-glucitol were obtained concurrently in 90% yield by paired electrolysis of glucose with a lead sheet cathode and a dimensionally stable anode in a press-filtration diaphragm cell.20... 

Valving on a PDMS sheet has also been achieved after an elliptical hole was punched in the PDMS, and an elliptical needle was inserted in the hole. Then valve actuation was achieved by having the elliptical needle rotated for 90°, thus compressing the fluidic channel below for valve closure [1043]. A PDMS membrane was fitted on a glass wafer to create a valve. Three valves placed in series form a diaphragm pump [244]. 

Anodes and cathodes are connected in parallel, and the diaphragms separating the electrodes from each other are iron sheets perforated near the lower edge. The successful working of this arrangement depends on the fact, first ascertained by Del Proposto,1 that if the voltage between the electrodes is not above 3 volts, the iron diaphragm between them does not become bipolar, and hence no gas is evolved on its surface. 

A cell used by the Salzbergwerke,1 Stassfurt, is shown in section in Fig. 7. It is of iron, and contains the solution of manganate, which is replenished by gradual solution of the fused product contained in the metal baskets B. The cathodes are immersed in cement boxes C which serve as diaphragms, and sheet iron anodes A dip into the liquor between the metal baskets and the cement cathode... 

The middle iron plates e1, e2 etc. act as bipolar electrodes, and have on both sides extended perforated sheets n. The terminal monopolar electrodes have only one sheet n each. The diaphragm frame holds the asbestos cloth. The top edges of the electrodes and diaphragm frames have angle irons a, b, which are riveted and form a flat surface beneath the electrolyte level.
