In addition to all the metallic phase diagrams, a series of volumes devoted to ceramic systems have been published since 1964 by the American Ceramic Society and is still continuing. The original title was Phase Diagrams for Ceramists, now it is named Phase Equilibria Diagrams. Some 25,000 diagrams, binary and ternary mostly, have been published to date. There is no compilation for polymeric systems, since little attention has been devoted to phase diagrams in this field up to now. [Pg.497]

In Figure 8.2-9 the phase diagram for an eutectic solidifying binary nrixture is shown. According to the given phase diagram (binary system without formation of mixed crystals) this soUd should contain less A than the feed. In this case the thermodynamic distribution coefficient for an impurity component i is defined by... [Pg.426]

Phase diagram Binary plots of surfactant concentration versus temperature showing regions in which various mesophases and other phases form. Ternary plots of water, oil, and surfactant concentrations at constant temperature showing compositions in which the various mesophases and other phases form. [Pg.3783]

Calorimetric methods are isoplethal, that is, they follow a line on a phase diagram (binary or ternary) along which the composition remains constant as temperature is varied. [Pg.122]

The methods of experimental determination and the calculation of different values associated with chemical reactions (enthalpies, entropies, calorific capacities, free and constant equilibrium enthalpies) lead to complex equilibrium calculations and their graphical representations in various forms pole figures, generalized Ellingham diagrams, binary, tertiary and quaternary diagrams. [Pg.190]

Compared to unary-phase diagrams, binary ones contain an additional composition variable. Flence, the C increases by 2 in the phase rule. If the system has only one phase, then the degree of freedom becomes... [Pg.50]

By equating the fugacities of the species in each phase of a mixture, we are able to construct phase diagrams. Binary-phase diagrams have been illustrated for P vs. mole fraction at constant T, T vs. mole fraction at constant P, or mole fraction in the vapor phase vs. mole fraction in the liquid. Phase diagrams can be used to determine what phase or phases are present at a given thermodynamic state and, in the two-phase and three-phase regions, the composition of the phases as well as their relative amounts. [Pg.538]
