The Computer. AXIS is written in FORTRAN and runs on a GEC 4000 series multi-user mini computer equipped with a Graphics Option Controller (GOC) model 5250, manufactured by Sigma Electronic Systems Ltd. This device converts an alphanumeric visual display unit into a graphics terminal, allowing independent use of the alphanumeric and graphics screens. In addition, it provides cursor handling facilities and the ability to selectively erase part of the screen. All of these features are utilised by AXIS. [Pg.115]

Any program developed in-house must be easy to use, or user-friendly. If the program has various options for input, analysis, computation, and output, then it must provide the user with a fast way to select them. To meet this need, the system is likely to be menu-driven. The peripheral interactive devices such as mice, joysticks, light pens, graphic tablets, and templates are helpful and often used to expedite the selection process. [Pg.65]

Start 1D WIN-NMR, enter the Preview window and use the Frame option to open a frame for the 2D layout copied into the clipboard in the previous Check it. With the cursor positioned within the frame double click on the left mouse button to open the dialog box. Click on Paste and then OK to Import the 2D layout. Double click the left mouse button and in the Metafile Options dialog box adjust x-Factor and y-Factor to position the 2D layout correctly within the frame. Arrange and resize these frames for the best representation. Use additional graphical elements (Lines, Rectangle) available within the Preview window of 1D WIN-NMR for assignment purposes. Set up your output device and plot the layout. [Pg.146]

Another device involved in the input of data is the mouse (or, generically, the pointer device, since many people use trackballs or touch pads instead of mice). The mouse changes the position of a pointer on the screen relative to the position of the mouse. It is used to select menu options and other items within Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). [Pg.92]

Current systems used in classroom practice differ in the way data is processed and visualised. The most common has been a microcomputer, but also modem graphic calculators used in mathematics education can also be connected via an interface to sensors. A third type is a hand-held device that combines the data logging, computing, and visualising procedures. The last two options are more flexible to use, enabling data to also be collected in the field. [Pg.222]
