Developmental Challenges

The dilemmas in each case pose a developmental challenge. They cannot be resolved by reference to rule books or text books. Each manager has to work out his or her own salvation for handling the issues involved, and do so in a way that will enhance his or her ability to manage effectively. 

Special needs children, however, because of their relative degree of physical, learning, or emotional disability, can absorb a disproportionate amount of parental energy, time, attention, and family resources. Compared to siblings, they are more developmentally challenged and therefore can require more care. 

Table 6.1 offers behavioral manifestations of inclusive leadership across multiple levels of system to demonstrate the importance of attending to each level simultaneously. The need to notice and make choices about what is happening in the midst of all this complexity creates a developmental challenge that requires individual and organizational capacity to tolerate and embrace uncertainty. This challenge arises within the individual, between people in relationships, and in the context of systems designed to support the active involvement of all individuals and groups. For leaders and practitioners who want to further develop their capacities for inclusive leadership, the third column offers additional resources to pursue. 

This chapter reports some of the findings and issues of a qualitative research study undertaken by the ICLRD in recent years on the developmental challenges experienced by, and opportunities open to, settlements on either side of the Irish border with a specific emphasis on the changing policy environment as it relates to collaboration on mobility, trade, and shared services such as health and education. 

Three major reports documenting the NRPCT efforts were developed. The first report, a concept feasibility evaluation, was issued in October 2004 (Reference 1). This report reviewed the developmental challenges of a space reactor system, including the reactor design, fuel and materials performance, shielding design, primary coolant transport and compatibility, energy conversion and heat rejection options, and operational concerns. 

Revolutionary tire designs for high-tech passenger car radial (PCR) tires drives the developmental pace of the tire equipment manufactures. Triple-tread, asymetrical tread, or highly loaded silica compounds have a consequential impact on the extrasion machinery. In this context the design of the extmsion head and the extmders itself requires adaption to the new, challenging tire technology of today.
