Q Safety Factors. Wherever you intend to live after retirement, you want to feel safe, secure, and relaxed. Although single residences can be made safer (alarm systems, barred windows, safety doors, having a large dog, etc.), if your neighborhood is deteriorating it may no longer be in your comfort zone. This factor, if sufficiently important, may be a top five priority for you. 

Metals and metal alloys are not without their disadvantages as hiomaterials, however. Although they tend to he quite stable in a biological system, they are not completely inert. They do react to some extent, meaning the metal implant can deteriorate over time. A number of methods have been devised to reduce this problem. For example, metal implants are sometimes attached to existing bone with a ceramic material, which acts as a buffer between the metal and the living material in hone. 

Much of the wetland loss occurring in coastal Louisiana is due to the deterioration of highly organic marsh soil. As discussed earlier, conversion of coastal marshes to inland open water is associated with plant stresses such as saltwater intrusion into nonsaline marshes and increased soil waterlogging as a result of subsidence. Marsh elevation decreases rapidly following plant mortality because of the structural collapse of the living root networks (DeLaune et al., 1994). The peat collapse and the associated erosion result in the conversion of marsh into open water. Conversions to open water system releases a considerable amount of carbon into the estuary where it is either decomposed or... 

The amounts of cocaine the Indians consiune in this way are extremely small. Without such a crutch of central-nervous-system stimulation, the natives of the Andes would probably find it more difficult to perform the nearly Herculean tasks of their daily lives, such as carrying heavy loads over the rugged mountainous terrain. Unfortunately, overindulgence can lead to mental and physical deterioration and eventually an unpleasant death.
