Ultrasonic (processes) Process which utilizes specially designed tooling usually vibrating at 15-80 KHz. Processes are designed to cause localized heating of thermoplastic materials which, in turn, will provide some type of welded or fused joint. Benefits are elimination of fillers and minimized heat stress on surrounding materials.

A design based on the enclosure open-area control velocity does not consider all the other variables listed as affecting dust control. Calculation procedures to predict many of the other variables would be very complicated if not impossible to perform. Resources are not limited to human resources, as stated in Part 2 Chapter 1. You need to ensure that the design groups are equipped with the necessary design tools, equipment, and facilities with which to execute the tasks. Once you have asked each group to propose how they are to meet the requirements, you then need to ensure that they have the capability of doing so. This is less of a problem in-house as with subcontractors. Due to their remoteness and the keen competition, they may make claims they cannot fulfill. In controlling the design you need to ensure that adequate resources are deployed by the subcontractors and to do this pre-contract surveys and assessments need to be performed. This is implied in clause 4.6.

Figure 32.16 presents on the basis of the characteristic number the typical impeller profiles, velocity triangle shapes, and characteristic curves to be expected from the machine flow paths shown. This indicates the use of the number as a design tool for the pump engineer. 

Because of the complexities of the materials and the effects of the processing on the materials, this is an area where predictability based on scientific data is very limited and casting experience is desirable. Successful products will result from close cooperation between designer, tool designer, mold maker, and processor to arrive at design compromises that make the products acceptable and producible at an economical price.
