Design process System specification

Continuous Saponification Systems. A relatively recent innovation in the production of soap, these systems have led to improved manufacturing efficiency and considerably shorter processing times. There are a number of commercial systems available even though these systems are different in design aspects or specific operations, they all saponify fats and oils to finished soap using the same general process (Fig. 3). [Pg.153]

By attempting to maintain process conditions at or near their design values, the process controls so attempt to prevent abnormal conditions from developing within the process. Although process controls can be viewed as a protective layer, this is really a by-product and not the primaiy func tion. Where the objective of a function is specifically to reduce risk, the implementation is normally not within the process controls. Instead, the implementation is within a separate system specifically provided to reduce risk. This system is generally referred to as the safety interlock system. [Pg.796]

Belt and pulley selection is based on the design requirements of a specific machine train and the machine manufacturer will generally provide the belt system specifications. The following information is the minimum required for proper selection horsepower requirements, center-to-center dimensions of the drive and driven shafts, and the process envelope. [Pg.970]

Various design and operating problems have been experienced by most developers of methanation systems. Specifically, carbon formation and catalyst sintering are two of the more common problems in methanation processes. Carbon formation refers to the potential production of carbon from carbon oxides and methane by the following reactions. [Pg.150]

An industrial treatment system may require some chemical pretreatment before biological treatment even some physical treatment may be desirable. Also, smce the concentrations of the pollutants are usually greater and more predictable than those in municipal wastes, the engineer can design a more specific system than is possible for municipal treatment plants.64 In this case all possibilities must be carefully evaluated by the process engineer. [Pg.452]

The design basis includes the process requirements specification and the safety requirements specification. The process requirements specification is typically developed by process engineering, with input from operations personnel. The process requirements are provided to the instrumentation, electrical, or controls systems personnel to develop the safety requirements specification with input from operations and maintenance personnel. [Pg.104]

The company or facility should make use of the services of an engineer knowledgeable and trained in fire protection. Ideally, a registered fire protection engineer should be available to review fire protection designs. Fire safety, loss prevention, or process safety engineers should assist in the analysis of hazards, selection of protection system specifications, approval of the system, and acceptance testing. [Pg.127]
