Design basis questionnaire

A convenient tabular questionnaire is in Table 1.8. For anything not specified, for instance, sparing of equipment, engineering standards of the designer or constructor will be used. A proper design basis at the very beginning of a project is essential to getting a project completed and on stream expeditiously.

The design basis must be clearly defined before design can be begun. If the design is carried out for a client, then the design basis should be reviewed with the client at the start of the project. Most companies use standard forms or questionnaires to capture design basis information. A sample template is given in Appendix G and can be downloaded in MS Excel format from the online material at http //books.elsevier.com/companions. 

Equipment is supplied on the basis of information about the needs provided by the ultimate purchaser and user. Although the more information, within limits, the better, suppliers do require a certain minimum amount before they can make recommendations of equipment and price. Some kinds of equipment are sufficiently standardized to allow their specification by standard forms like those of Appendix B. The questionnaires of individual Suppliers sampled in Appendix C are mostly of specialized equipment that requires custom designing to a greater extent. This is a random selection and other suppliers of each type are available to provide service. Following is a listing of questionnaires contained in this Appendix C. During the V-Chef pilot, all technical issues are reviewed by the team on a weekly basis, and adjustments are made as necessary. At the end of the first semester, the pilot students complete an online exam designed to test their knowledge. Only students with a passing grade are invited to attend the second semester. The MoLE-Questionnaire was designed for a systematic analysis of the students perceptions of the actual classroom learning environment and also the preferred one. The questionnaire is based on the pedagogical interest theory, on the self-determination-theory, on theories of achievement motivation (see above), and on reflections from the field of classroom and learning environment research (Fraser, 1989). These various concepts of motivation and interest and the results of research on learning environment served as a basis for the development and validation MoLE-Model discussed above.
