Demonstration South Korea

National programs are underway to develop and deploy the reactor and applications in China, France, South Korea, and United States [35-38]. Many more countries are participating in R D through the High Temperature Reactor Technology Network of the European Union [39] and the GIF including the 10 member countries [40]. Builds of full-scale commercial demonstration reactors are actively planned in several countries such as South Africa [41] and the United States [38]. 

Unlike Japan and South Korea, the USA has a high level of governmental federalisation. Within this, a two-tier system has emerged where R D activities are carried out mainly at the federal (central) government level, whilst demonstration and dissemination is being done at state level. 

As was discussed in Chapter 7, inhalation of polluted air induces respiratory disease. The sensitivity of children s developing lungs to air pollutants has been addressed in two recent studies. The first study that included 120 children in China and South Korea demonstrated that exposure to airborne particulates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons produced OS in these children [7]. Increased OS has been associated with respiratory disease. 

Since the end of the 2000s, an increasing interest has been demonstrated on a Brayton cycle working with supercritical CO2 (S-CO2) as new energy conversion systems for various power plants, such as solar plants, fossil power plants, and nuclear plants. In particular, this S-CO2 Brayton cycle has been proposed by several countries such as France, the USA, Japan, and South Korea as a power conversion system for SFRs. East Germany and the Scandinavian countries. It has also been demonstrated that instant noodles fridd in palm oil and palm stearin are endowed with longer shelf life. Thus, palm oil is popular in South Korea for such application. Work on blending palm olein with other liquid oils shows that palm olein confers improved properties to some liquid oils e.g. rapeseed oil and rice bran oil, thus opening greater utilisation of palm olein for frying in countries where such liquid oils are produced. 

In 1987 Monsanto Enviro-Chem demonstrated its new Heat Recovery System (HRS) at Namhae Chemical in South Korea. 

The PAFC technology is considered to be the only commercial available fuel cell. The PAFC plants rely heavily on the quality of power produced from the stacks. The largest power of 11 MW has been achieved using the PAFC plant built by international fuel cells and Toshiba for Tokyo Electric Power. The major industrial developers of PAFC are Fuji Electric, Toshiba and Mitsubishi Electric Company (Japan) and UTC fuel cells (ONSI Corporation, United States). Mitsubishi Electric Company has demonstrated cell performance of 0.65 mV at 300 mA/cm. In 1991, Tokyo Electric Company demonstrated cell performance of 0.71 V at 431 mA/cm. Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd. of India and Caltex Oil Corporation of South Korea are new entrants for the PAFC technology. 

Interestingly, with four exceptions, ail national GMP documents are written as Codes or Guidelines where if the company can demonstrate a better method or logic of operations than stated in the code, this can be discussed with the national inspectorate and agreed to. In Japan, Korea, South Africa, and the United States, GMPs are regulations that must be adhered to—with little scope for discussion of a better method with the GMP inspector ...
