Endrin from Cotton. While the application of endrin to cotton leads to runoff immediately to the field, dilution and degradation reduce the concentration to barely discernible levels (< 10 p.p.t.) within a short distance on a watercourse from the treated field. While a fraction of the endrin reaches the soil surface, the concentration does not accumulate by multiple sprays during the growing season. Endrin concentration in the mud of a watercourse receiving the runoff is low and was analytically nil in our tests. Fish taken in the same watercourse have barely detectable, if any, endrin. 

Such degradation reduces the porosity of the bed and can adversely affect calcination and cooling of the lime. Moreover, the quantity of fines (e.g., 5 mm to dust) increases, reducing the yield of the premium screened products.

Renouf-Glauser et al. observed an increase in the degradation rate of PLLA with the addition of lauric acid - an acid found in soaps, cosmetics and food additives. Lauric acid was found to catalyse the hydrolytic degradation, reducing the time to loss of tensile strength. 

Only by chemical analysis can the presence of potentially degradative reducing or oxidising agents be determined and their likely effect be taken into account when instituting biocide dosing regimes. 

The surfactant component of the detergent can also form a protective layer on metal parts as shown here, resulting in the inhibition of rust and corrosion. Together, the surfactant and the basic components work in synergy to inhibit rust and corrosion and oil degradation, reduce high temperature deposits and solubilize polar components. 

Shear degradation reduced the residual resistance effect. No significant loss of viscosity was evident due to shear degradation.

From the earlier flow studies it was noted that the structure degraded (reduced t]) under the action of a shear strmn, that is, the viscosity t]o was reduced to rioo. Constant shear stress studies revealed that this could occur in approximately 10 seconds. If the shear strain was removed, the viscosity tio could be recovered. To measure the rate of recoveiy of the structure the following two-step experiment was devised. 

Cellrrlose of undamaged cotton fiber has 76.5% of well ordered area, 7.8% of weakly ordered area, and 15.7% of disordered area. Microbiological degradation reduces the part of disordered area to 12.7%, whereas the part of well ordered area increases to 80.4%. The ratio of weakly ordered area changes insignificantly. This goes to prove that the order degree of cotton cellulose increases due to destruction of disordered areas.
