Deferred examination

Ultrasound examination is used routinely to evaluate cirrhosis a small, nodular liver with increased echogenicity is consistent with cirrhosis. Liver biopsy is the only way to diagnose cirrhosis definitively, but it is often deferred in lieu of a... [Pg.329]

This chapter examines another measure of the space used by 2D separations subject to correlation. Some researchers use the words, peak capacity, to express the maximum number of zones separable under specific experimental conditions, regardless of what fraction of the space is used. By definition, however, the peak capacity is the maximum number of separable zones in the entire space. No substantive reason exists to change this definition. The ability to use the space, however, depends on correlation. In deference to previous researchers (Liu et al., 1995 Gilar et al., 2005b), the author adopts the term, practical peak capacity, to describe the used space. The practical peak capacity is the peak capacity, when the separation mechanisms are orthogonal, but is less than the peak capacity when they are not. The subsequent discussion is based on practical peak capacity. [Pg.36]

The determination that the low MW, acetylated aspen lignins examined actually fit universal calibration, however, must be deferred to future studies comparing these data to results from LALLS and sedimentation equilibrium analysis (if possible). [Pg.105]

While file above schemes are interesting from a technical standpoint, it must be recalled that chemically there are potentially large errors associated with the HE approximation, so the HE limit is of more interest from a formal standpoint than from a chemical one. Thus, we will defer additional discussion of extrapolation and additivity concepts until Section 7.7, where it is re-examined in the additional context of accounting for electron correlation effects. [Pg.178]

We have already introduced the idea that the primary particles of a dispersed system tend to associate into larger structures known as aggregates. The nature of the interparticle forces responsible for this aggregation is one of the most examined areas of colloid science. We defer our discussion of the aggregation (or coagulation) process until Chapter 13, but a few remarks about aggregates — the kinetic units that result from that process —and how their dimensions are represented quantitatively are in order at this time. [Pg.25]

We shall defer part of our analysis of conduction-convection systems to Chap. 10 on heat exchangers. For the present we wish to examine some simple extended-surface problems. Consider the one-dimensional fin exposed to a surrounding fluid at a temperature T as shown in Fig. 2-9. The temperature of the base of the fin is T0. We approach the problem by making an energy balance on an element of the fin of thickness dx as shown in the figure. Thus... [Pg.43]

No evidence of a deferred, drug-induced mortality increase was seen when the experiences of the first 10 and remaining 16 follow-up years were examined separately. Of the lA categories of experimental chemicals studied, only two had an SMR exceeding unity during the last 16 follow-up years. One of these (cholinesterase reactivator, only) was clearly due to small numbers, one observed death with 0.8 deaths expected, while the other, A7 observed versus 39.7 expected deaths, was seen in the 1,719 volunteers who were not exposed to any of the chemicals, the no tesc group. We can state with 95-percent certainty that the true SMR for these men during the first 10 years falls between 0.69 and 1.36, while the limits for the last 16 years are 0.83 and 1.54, respectively. [Pg.91]

Since the modelling of excimer kinetics is very relevant to the discussion of excimer formation in synthetic polymers, detailed examination and analysis of the kinetics of fluorescence decay in these systems is deferred until section C of this review. Suffice it to say here that the time dependence of the fluorescence of the monomer unit M is the sum of two exponentially decaying terms, that of the excimer the difference between the same two exponentials. [Pg.83]

The dependence of f on chain length observed at low Z (cf. seq.), requires that the viscosity % at constant f be examined rather than the viscosity at constant temperature in order to deduce the nattire of the function F Thus, a brief discussion of the function f is necessary in order to consider the calculation of F from data on ri Z,T), though we defer a full discussion of the dependence of on Z and T until the following section. [Pg.264]

We must mention however, that in certain special cases—called indifferent states—the choice of variables T and p is not convenient in the sense that for these systems these two variables do not suffice to calculate all the others. We indicate below the way in which this state of affairs arises, but a detailed examination is deferred until chap. XXIX. [Pg.190]

It is important to realize that a perturbation is not necessarily related to any external action on the system. Molecular fluctuations lead inevitably to small variations of the macroscopic quantities from their equilibrium values. There is in fact a relation between the probability of a fluctuation and the production of entropy which accompanies it but we shall defer full discussion of this problem until we examine irreversible processes in greater detail. [Pg.207]

International Phase The PCT filing results in an International Search and the issuance of an International Search Report, a Written Opinion (which comments on the three aspects of patentability (novelty, obviousness and utility) as they apply to the claims, and possibly comments on other matters as well), and an International Preliminary Examination Report (IPER). WIPO will also publish the patent application 18 months after the priority date. The designation WO... in the upper right hand of what many call a patent actually indicates that the document is only a published PCT patent application, not a patent. The PCT patent application is itself never prosecuted to allowance. The filing allows an applicant to defer further action (and... [Pg.627]

Participation by remote double bonds has often been adressed as the tt route to a-bridged ( nonclassical ) cations. Detailed examination of the intermediates is deferred to Section 7.6 where the generation of such species from other sources is discussed. [Pg.234]

Discussion of the influence of time for forest praetices is deferred until later. At this stage it is useful to consider further this tenuous thread linking the forest resource to consumer desires and needs, as examination brings clarity - or at least systematic order - to the concept of wood quality. [Pg.121]
