An example of cycloaliphatic chlorine flame retardants is hexachlorocyclo-pentadiene (Dechlorane Plus , or CFR). It is typically used in polyester resins in which hexachlorocyclopentadiene is converted into functional derivatives by maleic anhydride to give the net anhydride. It is the most stable chlorinated flame retardant (CFR). CFR is commonly used in synergism with antimony oxide, zinc borate, zinc oxide, and iron oxides. In Nylon 66, CFR is often used in concentrations of 8-25%, along with 1-10% of Sb203, zinc borate, or iron oxide [11]. [Pg.473]

From the chlorinated paraffins, solid products containing 70 per cent of chlorine are used for relatively low-temperature processing such as blown films. Dechlorane Plus is also a low-temperature additive of limited utility. Hexabromocyclododecane is suggested for polypropylene. [Pg.387]

Dechlorane Plus. Number One Flame Retardant in Polymer Systems. Product sheet of Occidental Chemical Corporation, No. 532-4 11/84 5 M (1984)... [Pg.410]

Occidental Chemicals, or Oxychem, has long offered Dechlorane materials, one of which is designated Dechlorane Plus 25, sometimes just referred to as CFR. This contains 65% of chlorine and is a Diels-Alder adduct of hexachlorocyclopentadiene. [Pg.33]

In PVC partial replacement of antimony oxide not only provides synergy for flame retardancy, but also improves smoke reduction, which can be enhanced by addition of ATH. Just as important, due to antimony oxides costing more, partial replacement by zinc borate can result in considerable savings on cost, usually between 30 and 60%. Total replacement of antimony oxide in the presence of a halogen containing system is possible. In polyamide, Firebrake ZB plus a compound like OxyChem s Dechlorane Plus maintains a V-0 rating in the UL94 tests. [Pg.41]

Dechlorane Plus, with 65% chlorine content, has been used in polyamide applications for many years but has become superseded by newer FRs. It is very good for UV stable applications but is somewhat costly and has limitations with regard to its thermal stability. [Pg.70]

Organic Chlorine. This is a good flame retardant, less expensive but less efficient than bromine. It too is greatly synergized by antimony trioxide. A particularly popular compound is Dechlorane Plus, the adduct of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with cyclooctadiene. Chlorinated paraffins are also widely used. Like bromine, chlorine may be limited by problems with smoke, toxic corrosive gases, and environmental concerns. [Pg.358]

Occidental Chemicals supplies Dechlorane and Dechlorane Plus, a Diels-Alder adduct of hexachlorocyclopentadiene. It has a wide range of processing temperatures, offers the advantage of lower smoke than brominated equivalents on burning, and is useful at the 15%-18% level in PBT and the polyamides. A synergist such as zinc borate, oxide or stannate is advisable as well. Chlorinated FRs can be combined with magnesium hydroxide in polyolefin wire and cable formulations. [Pg.116]

Dechlorane Plus, Fire-retardant additive. Occidental Chemical Corp. [Pg.900]

Firebrake ZB 415 with Dechlorane Plus gives flame-retardant properties superior to those of antimony oxide alone. Grade ZB 500 makes it possible to suppress fumes from fluoropolymers, and gives good flame-retardant properties to poly(ether ketone)s and polyfether sulphone)s. Other key applications are talc-reinforced PP replacing PVC. ABS, and PA 66 in electrical/electronic applications, and EVC cable compounds. [Pg.125]
