Blockade of neuromuscular transmission produced by an intravenous dose of d-tubocurarine chloride at 0.3 mg/kg, but not that due to 0.5 mg/kg, was antagonized by intravenous 2-PAM 1 at 5 mg/kg. Edrophonium bromide (intravenously at 0.2 mg/kg) was a more potent antagonist of d-tubocurarlne than this dose of 2-PAM 1. Partial blockades of neuromuscular transmission Induced by intravenous injections of decamethonium bromide at 20 Vg/kg, neostigmine bromide at 1 mg/kg, or succinylcholine chloride at 50 Mg/kg were intensified by Intravenous Injection of 2-PAM 1 at 5 mg/kg, in about the same way in which they were enhanced by intravenous doses of edrophonium bromide at 0.2 mg/kg. Intravenous doses of 2-PAM I at up to 150 mg/kg had no effect on the muscle response to direct stimulation in anesthetized cats. [Pg.289]

Sorbic acid has also been shown to be a suitable probe for the analysis of the alkylphosphonic acids and their monoester derivatives (14). A run buffer consisting of 5 mM sorbic acid and 0.1 mM decamethonium bromide, adjusted to pH 6, was used to separate a mixture of eight alkyl alkylphospho-nates. The use of the EOF modifier decamethonium bromide reduced the EOF at pH 6 to enhance the resolution and gave complete separation of the alkylphosphonic acids and their monoester derivatives (e.g. MPA and IMPA) in less than 15 minutes, as shown in Figure 3. [Pg.396]

The two onium groups present in decamethonium bromide are situated at a distance of 15 A which incidentally compares very closely to that of suxamethonium chloride. Decamethonium cannot be hydrolysed by chloinesterase and hence exerts a much more prolonged effect. [Pg.235]

Qi) Why decamethonium bromide exerts a much more prolonged effeet. [Pg.250]

Replacing the terminal diamino groups of diaminoalkanes by quaternary ammonium moieties gave rise to more efficient separations [57]. Although a similar resolution was achieved with both types of additives, lower concentrations of quaternary ammonium salts were necessary and shorter migration times were obtained, an indication of effectiveness of these bis-quaternary ammonium compounds. Quaternary ammonium salts such as hexamethonium chloride and bromide and decamethonium bromide (DcBr), having alkyl chains of 6 and 10 carbon atoms, respectively, have been used for the separation of the isoforms of OVA and hCG [57], and Tf [55]. For quaternary ammonium salts, the longer alkyl chains were shown to be more effective and chloride salts led to shorter analysis time than bromide ones. [Pg.642]

Decamethonium bromide is used in surgery as a muscle relaxant. It acts by preventing the enzyme acetylcholine esterase from destroying acetylcholine (see page 327), a necessary step in the transmission of nerve impulses. Show how decamethonium bromide can be synthesized from a diamine and an alkyl halide. [Pg.354]

The synthesis of zeolite NU-87 was first reported by Casci and Stewart in 1990 [67]. As structure directing agent, bis-quaternary organic compoimds (cf. Fig. 10) were claimed, with decane-l,10-bis-(trimethylammonium)dibromide (decamethonium-bromide, diquat DeBr2) as the preferred template. Typically, Si02/Al203 ratios from 25 to 60 and NaOH/Si02 ratios around 0.3 are applied. A recommended synthesis mixture is prepared from silica sol, sodium aluminate, sodiiun hydroxide, water and the template. In our own experiments for the... [Pg.78]
