Monocyclic furoxans can be transformed into a variety of other heterocyclic systems, including isoxazolines, isoxazoles, pyrazolines and furazans. Quality control of production has, for many years, been a major concern of catalyst manufacturers. Some methods, such as texture analysis of solids and elemental analysis, have been established for a long time. Others, such as X-ray absorption spectroscopy, are more recent. Analysis techniques as a whole, however, have been subject to methodological research enabling the scope and level of interpretation of results to be developed. Recent decades have in particular seen numerous analysis techniques based on the use of radiation and particle beams applied to industrial catalysts. In view of the increasing number of possibilities for analysing this type of solid in detail, we considered it useful to give an up-to-date assessment of the type of information that each technique can offer.

Availability and choice of instrumentation and how use of different equipment could affect assay performance need to be discussed. Definitions of experimental and storage conditions, reagent sources and quality, and lab personnel experiences should be discussed early on. This also applies to the process of assigning expiry dates, assessment of reagent stability, reagent handling, and shipping processes. 

There have been several reviews published on the general use of CPL to study chiral molecular systems. Steinberg wrote the first review on CPL spectroscopy emphasizing applications to biochemical systems (Steinberg, 1975), and Richardson and Riehl published a review of CPL in 1977 (Richardson and Riehl, 1977) and an updated review in 1986 (Riehl and Richardson, 1986). Brittain published a review of the use of CPL to study chiral lanthanide complexes in 1989 (Brittain, 1989). Several other recent articles describing various general aspects of CPL measurements and CPL theoretical principles are also available (Riehl and Richardson, 1993 Riehl, 1993, 2000 Maupin and Riehl, 2000). In this article we will review the various applications of CPL to the study of lanthanide complexes, as well as provide an up-to-date assessment of the state of theory and instramentatiorL We will emphasize both the qrralitative artd qrrarrtitative molecular information that has so far been obtained from this technique, and disctrss the future of CPL as a reliable probe of the molecular stereocherrristry of lanthanide complexes. 

Our sincere thanks go to the authors, lecturers and participants who constituted the Institute. This technology has since been introduced to the fossil power generating industry. To-date, several major utilities including the Termessee Valley Authority, Baltimore Gas and Electric and American Electric Power, as well as many others, have employed this technology to assess the condition of power-generating boiler tubes. 

Site characterization studies include a surface-based testing program, potential environmental impact, and societal aspects of the repository. The focus of the audit should be prevention, that is, finding areas needing improvement before they actually turn into situations that generate iioiicoiiformaiice. 

In considering team composition, you will probably find that many candidates have emerged through your PSM work to date.
