The authors wish to thank Cytec Fiberite Pic and Dr. D.R. Moore (ICI Pic) for the supply of materials and Mr Christian Murphy (Imperial College London) and Dr D.D.R. Cartie (Cranfield University) for the contribution of test data and photographs. Comments by Dr. M. Barbezat (EMPA) are also gratefully acknowledged. [Pg.444]

BP Chemicals (Hitco) Inc., Gardena, California, USA—British Petroleum (BP), UK acquired Bristol Composite Materials in 1979, but sold to GKN-Westland in 1997. In 1986, acquired Hitco from Owens Corning and sold to SGL Carbon in 1997. BP Amoco s carbon fiber business was sold to Cytec Fiberite in September, 2001. [Pg.1121]

At the time of going to press the future of this company remains unsure, although likely on the latest evidence to be acquired by Cytec Industries Inc. of West Paterson, NJ, USA, and to be called Cytec Fiberite Inc. Hence known contact addresses for both Fiberite and C] ec Industries Inc have been included in the Directory section. [Pg.120]

When the substrate was reinforced with carbon fibre, the plateau results obtained depended heavily on the type of adhesive being used Cytec-Fiberite film adhesive FM -73M (curing at 120°C) and room-temperature curing Loctite Aerospace paste adhesive EA 9309. The composite matrix chemistry exerted significantly less influence. [Pg.205]

The laminates consist of alternate layers aluminium (0.2-0.5 mm thick], which has been anodised and then primed with Cytec-Fiberite s BR-127 corrosion-inhibiting primer, bonded together with fibre-rich, epoxy-based adhesive-prepregs (about 0.125 mm thick]. The reinforcing fibre is usually unidirectional in nature, although woven fabric is occasionally used. Generally two or three sheets of adhesive separate each sheet of aluminium this can be in the 0° direction or laid up in a cross-plied orientation. [Pg.246]

Phenolic-epoxy adhesives were developed in the mid-1950s by Ciba (ARL) Limited (now Hexcel Composites) and American Cyanamid (now Cytec-Fiberite). These phenolic-epoxy formulations were initially developed for bonding components exposed to a much higher service temperature than the 70°C limit for Redux 775. [Pg.300]

Although the Hidux range has long since been withdrawn the Cytec-Fiberite, HT -424, is still on the market. A brief examination of some of the current areas of application shows how advanced the phenolic-epoxy adhesives were for their time. These include the flight control surfaces on the B 52 bomber and the Sidewinder missile, components within the navigation base of the Space Shuttle, applications within the Motorola Mk 45 missile and the wings on the Teledyne Ryan Firebrand missile. [Pg.301]

Phenolic-epoxy structural adhesives for the aerospace industry are available [33] from Cytec-Fiberite. [Pg.301]
