In the lithium-ion approach, the metallic lithium anode is replaced by a lithium intercalation material. Then, tw O intercalation compound hosts, with high reversibility, are used as electrodes. The structures of the two electrode hosts are not significantly altered as the cell is cycled. Therefore the surface area of both elecftodes can be kept small and constant. In a practical cell, the surface area of the powders used to make up the elecftodes is nomrally in the 1 m /g range and does not increase with cycle number [4]. This means the safety problems of AA and larger size cells can be solved. 

The cycling behavior of sample BrlOOO was tested. Figure 26 shows the capacity versus cycle number for one BrlOOO cell. This cell was cycled with a cunent corresponding to 37 mA/g (10-hour rate) after the first three cycles.

Subsequent deposition and dissolution of lithium at the anodically passivated electrode by CV in the range -1000 mV to 6000 mV versus Li was successful, showing that the passivating film at the electrode is only impermeable for the anions, but not for lithium ions however, the amount of lithium deposited decreases, with cycle number. 

The mobility of lithium ions in cells based on cation intercalation reactions in clearly a crucial factor in terms of fast and/or deep discharge, energy density, and cycle number. This is especially true for polymer electrolytes. There are numerous techniques available to measure transport...

It is a common feature of most AI methods that flexibility exists in the way that we can run the algorithm. In the SOM, we can choose the shape and dimensionality of the lattice, the number of nodes, the initial learning rate and how quickly the rate diminishes with cycle number, the size of the initial neighborhood and how it too varies with the number of cycles, the type of function to be used to determine how the updating of weights varies with distance from the winning node, and the stopping criterion.

Another important aspect for a material to be used as electrode for supercapacitors is its electrochemical stability. In Figure 2, presenting the specific discharge capacitance versus the cycle number for the optimized a-Mn02-nl FO/CNTs composite in 2 molL 1 KNO3 (pH=6.5), it can be observed that the specific capacitance loss after 200 cycles is about 20%. 

In the next paper by Y. Illin et al., capabilities of Sn anodes are considered as a possible alternative to carbon. Thin films of Sn were deposited onto current collector in vacuum, and tested in the coin cells. Authors were able to obtain reversible alloying reaction, which stabilized at 100 mAh/g between cycle number 100 and 400. The stability of Sn and its characteristics upon cycling was seen to be a function of the current collector material. The best results were achieved with non-copper-based substrates.
