The plastic strains are measured by means of point marking method. The markings with 1 mm interval in a direction of tensile axis were made by a micro-vickers hardness tester before tensile tests. Tensile tests were conducted at room temperature at a cross-head rate of 0.5 mm/min with an Instron-type testing machine. After the tensile deformation, the relative displacements between markings were measured under a precision machinery microscope, and the corresponding local strains in the direction of tensile axis were calculated. Then deformed specimens were cut into pieces of 1 mm width by a low speed cutter perpendicular to the tensile axis. The saturation magnetization of each piece was measured by magnetic balance at room temperature. [Pg.715]

Properties. — Pure cerium is a metal which is malleable, ductile, ami soft enough to fie cut with a knife. It machines fairly well, hut requires cure to prevent buckling. It resembles steel in apiiejirnnee, takes a polish well, and has il density of 0.02- It is fuir conductor of heat, hut does not. conduct the electric current well, its resistnuec being 71,0 micro-ohms [sir centimeter cube at ordinary teiu s rut.iircs, It is paramagnetic,... [Pg.167]

The cutting process may be seen as a system in which input operators go in and output operators come out. Process inputs are the cutting mode and the set variables, i.e., kinematic or geometric quantities controllable from the outside like speed, feed, or cutting depth the properties of the workpiece relevant for the process like work material or shape, of the tool as tool material macro and micro properties of the active part of the tool and of the environment as the relevant machine properties or the coolant and luhricatiOTi. [Pg.346]

The best surface qualities in machining aluminum alloys can be achieved by using diamond tools. Because of the low process forces, diamond tools with very sharp cutting edges are not prone to micro breakouts and allow clear cuts which result in smooth surfaces (Kammer 2003). [Pg.773]

Ultra-small micro end nulls (USM mills) are defined by a diameter smaller than 50 pm. They are often used to cut ductile materials for struc-mres with small radii, undercuts, and tool diameter determined geometries when the accessibility for machining is diameter dependent (Fig. 1). For example, they are used to fabricate medical instruments, micro valves, and so on (Masuzawa 2000 Onikura et al. 2004). [Pg.1284]
