Dialkylphosphonopropionamides. CeUulosic derivatives that closely resemble those based on the dialkylphosphonopropionamides have been prepared (71). The fabric was treated with AJ-hydrox raethylhaloacetamides (chloro, bromo, or iodo) in DME solution by a pad-dry-cure technique with a 2inc nitrate [10196-18-6] catalyst. It was then allowed to react in solution with trimethyl phosphite [121 -45-9] at about 140—150°C the reaction rates decreased in the order iodo > bromo > chloro. With phosphoms contents above 1.5%, good flame resistance, durable to laundering, was obtained without noticeable loss in fabric strength. [Pg.488]

Methacrylate monomers are most effective with derivatives of bisphenol A epoxy dimethacrylates, in which the methacrylate—methacrylate cross-linking reaction proceeds at a much faster pace than with styrene monomer. The production of alkylphenols exceeds 450,000 t/yr on a worldwide basis. Alkylphenols of greatest commercial importance have alkyl groups ranging in size from one to twelve carbons. The direct use of alkylphenols is limited to a few minor appUcations such as epoxy-curing catalysts and biocides. The vast majority of alkylphenols are used to synthesize derivatives which have appUcations ranging from surfactants to pharmaceuticals. Ionic polymers are also formulated from TDI and MDI (43). Poly(urethane urea) and polyurea ionomers are obtained from divalent metal salts of /)-aminohen2oic acid, MPA, dialkylene glycol, and 2,4-TDI (44). In the case of polyureas, the glycol extender is omitted. If TDI is used in coatings apphcations, it is usually converted to a derivative to lower the vapor pressure. A typical TDI prepolymer is the adduct of TDI with trimethyl olpropane (Desmodur L). Carbodiimide-modified MDI offers advantages in polyester-based systems because of improved hydrolytic stabihty (45). Moisture cure systems based on aromatic isocyanates are also available. [Pg.350]

Both nicotinic acid and nicotinamide have been used in the enrichment of bread, flour, and other grain-derived products. Animal feed is routinely supplemented with nicotinic acid and nicotinamide. Nicotinamide is also used in multivitamin preparations. Nicotinic acid is rarely used in this appHcation. The amide and carboxyHc acid have been used as a hrightener in electroplating baths and as stabili2er for pigmentation in cured meats. [Pg.53]

Property Modifiers. Property modifiers can, in general, be divided into two classes nonabrasive and abrasive, and the nonabrasive modifiers can be further classified as high friction or low friction. The most frequently used nonabrasive modifier is a cured resinous friction dust derived from cashew nutshell Hquid (see Nuts). Ground mbber is used in particle sizes similar to or slightly coarser than those of the cashew friction dusts for noise, wear, and abrasion control. Carbon black (qv), petroleum coke flour, natural and synthetic graphite, or other carbonaceous materials (see Carbon) are used to control the friction and improve wear, when abrasives are used, or to reduce noise. The above mentioned modifiers are primarily used in organic and semimetallic materials, except for graphite which is used in all friction materials. [Pg.274]

Amino Resins. Amino resins (qv) include both urea- and melamine—formaldehyde condensation products. They are thermosets prepared similarly by the reaction of the amino groups in urea [57-13-6] or melamine [108-78-1] with formaldehyde to form the corresponding methylol derivatives, which are soluble in water or ethanol. To form plywood, particle board, and other wood products for adhesive or bonding purposes, a Hquid resin is mixed with some acid catalyst and sprayed on the boards or granules, then cured and cross-linked under heat and pressure. [Pg.328]
