Frozen fish fingers and similar products are made from a mixture of different fish that arrive at the processing plant as frozen blocks of the average size 62.7 x 254 x 482 mm (thick x width x length). The frozen blocks are minced and the still frozen minced fish blocks are mixed and pressed into the desired shape, covered with batter and bread crumbs, baked on the outside (still with a frozen core), packed and stored in a deep freezer.

Another major area of use is in the field of adhesives. The main attractions of the material are the absence of a need for mastication, easy solvation of the polymer, which is supplied in a crumb form, the production of low-viscosity solutions and high joint strength. In conjunction with aromatic resins they are used for contact adhesives whilst with aliphatic resin additives they are used for permanently tacky pressure-sensitive adhesives. In addition to being applied from solution they may be applied as a hot melt. 

The system shown is heavily used in food processing applications such as milk or chocolate crumb production, sugar substitutes, modified starch, and alginates. In addition to food processing applications, such a system is used in the processing of heat-sensitive pharmaceuticals, polymer suspensions like latex, in processing pigments and dyestuffs, and pesticides.

Long-term grasslands provide plenty of organic matter for humus formation. If the soil is not acidic or waterlogged, the soil fauna and flora create humus and the subsequent useful development of a porous crumb and granular structure. Porosity encourages root growth and the uptake of soil nutrients.
