Cox process

The Abbott-Cox process relies upon exhausting the suspended pigment. In many cases exhaustion is difficult to control and irregularity in the shade can be the result. Vat dyes in their insoluble oxidized state are available in a super finely divided form which may be added to the dyebath and circulated through the goods on which they will be uniformly deposited without the use of an electrolyte to bring about coagulation. After a suitable period sodium hydroxide is added, followed by sodium hydrosulphite when the leuco compound becomes adsorbed on the fibre and is... [Pg.498]

The drug SC-558 acts by a fourth mechanism, specifically inhibiting COX-2. It is a weak competitive inhibitor of COX-1 but inhibits COX-2 in a slow, time-dependent process. Specific COX-2 inhibitors will likely be the drugs of the future because they selectively block the inflammation mediated by COX-2, without the potential for stomach lesions and renal toxicity that arise from COX-1 inhibition. [Pg.835]

The UV absorption spectra of sodium nitrite in aqueous solutions of sulfuric and perchloric acids were recorded by Seel and Winkler (1960) and by Bayliss et al. (1963). The absorption band at 250 nm is due either to the nitrosoacidium ion or to the nitrosyl ion. From the absorbancy of this band the equilibrium concentrations of HNO2 and NO or H20 —NO were calculated over the acid concentration ranges 0-100% H2S04 (by weight) and 0-72% HC104 (by weight). For both solvent systems the concentrations determined for the two (or three) equilibrium species correlate with the acidity function HR. This acidity function is defined for protonation-dehydration processes, and it is usually measured using triarylcarbinol indicators in the equilibrium shown in Scheme 3-15 (see Deno et al., 1955 Cox and Yates, 1983). [Pg.47]

Anionic/oxidative reaction sequences have been developed in addition to the domino anionic/reductive processes. For example, with regard to the synthesis of novel diaryl heterocycles as COX-2 inhibitors [500], including rofecoxib (Vioxx) 2-972 [501] (which has recently been withdrawn from the market) or the pyrrolin-2-one derivative 2-973 [494], Pal and coworkers reported on a so-far unique domino aldol condensation/oxidation sequence (Scheme 2.218) [503]. [Pg.197]
