Cosmetics and detergents

This type of titration is widely used in the cosmetics and detergents industry since it is very useful for estimating surfactants, which often cannot be analysed by spectrophotometric methods because they lack chromophores. There are two types of titration used. 

It can be synthesized by reaction of a 1 1 molar ratio of ethyl vinyl ether and phenethyl alcohol in the presence of cation exchange resin [141]. It imparts fresh, floral, green notes and is used in fine fragrances as well as in soap, cosmetics and detergents. 

Although colloids may be undesirable components in industrial systems, particularly as waste or by-products and, in nature, in the forms of fog and mist, they are desirable in many technologically important processes such as mineral beneficiation and the preparation of ceramics, polymers, composite materials, paper, foods, textiles, photographic materials, drugs, cosmetics, and detergents. The remainder of this chapter specifies some applications for colloidal solids, liquids, and gases and illustrates how colloids can affect many technologically important systems. 

Cosmetic and detergent-based materials such as face creams, shower gels, deodorants, etc. are specifically designed for frequent skin contact, even to very sensitive areas of the body. An individual may experience a wide variety of skin reactions to a topically applied material. These reactions are not always visible, for example, erythema or dryness and may be subjective reactions such as stinging,... 

Some of these polycyclic musk fragrances were also found in humans [358-360]. Consumption of fish and other food from aquatic ecosystems contaminated with PMFs can not explain the concentration in human. It is assumed that the occurrence of these lipophilic compounds in human adipose tissue or mother s milk is mainly due to dermal sorption from cosmetics and detergents [349-351]. In the future the production and use of polycyclic musk fragrances will still increase and the nitro musk compounds will be replaced by the PMFs.

There is a lot of interest in microemulsions as is shown by this book [94] and by recent pubHcations on microemulsion models [95, 96], as well as oil chain length dependence [97] and the use of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and microemulsions for pharmaceutical purposes [98, 99]. Microemulsions are used in many industrial appHcations [100], especially within the area of cosmetics and detergents [101] as well as in pharmaceutical applications [102] one of the more important ones being as drug-delivery systems [103-112].
