As to be expected from the DC experiments and the derived relationship between the electric field and the mixing, the same holds for a non-constant electric field. The maximum action is achieved for maximum electric fields. This becomes evident when looking at the corresponding microscopy images and the deformations of the fluid interface induced (see Figure 1.10). 

The limited available laboratory measurements of microfault capillary pressure supported the selection of this curve (Fig. 5). Permeability was determined using a mixture of minipermeameter, image analysis and flow tests, and capillary pressure by mercury injection, at the University of Leeds for Statoil. The correlation of these limited data with the model prediction is fair for the majority of the results (which are 8 mD and higher) and lends some support to the model results. The correspondence between field and model results is certainly best with the narrow pore size distribution model for the majority of the data. The exponent of the curve selected is closest to the theoretical prediction of 0.5. 

For bimetallic PdCu particles crystallized on MgO, an ordered structure (type CsCl) is always obtained after annealing. The particles are epitaxially oriented (001) on the substrate, with perfect coincidence between the lattices. The correspondence between experimental and simulated HRTEM images, and numerical analysis, are indicative of a layer of Pd at the interface between the alloy and MgO, with the atomic columns aligned with those of MgO.

The analysis of the image requires the knowledge of the correspondence between composition and color (if that is not linear, a calibration curve is required). Discrimination between exposed and unexposed areas in this process requires the selection of thia zolidine compounds that do not readily undergo alkaline hydrolysis in the absence of silver ions. In a study of model compounds, the rates of hydrolysis of model /V-methyl thia zolidine and A/-octadecyl thiazolidine compounds were compared (47). An alkaline hydrolysis half-life of 33 min was reported for the /V-methyl compound, a half-life of 5525 min (3.8 days) was reported for the corresponding V/-octadecyl compound. Other factors affecting the kinetics include the particular silver ligand chosen and its concentration (48). Polaroid Spectra film introduced silver-assisted thiazolidine cleavage to produce the yellow dye image (49), a system subsequentiy used in 600 Plus and Polacolor Pro 100 films.
