Copper chloride reaction with, phosgene

Violent reaction with benzoyl chloride combined with KOH, Bt2, barium carbonate, CS2, Cr(OCl)2, Cu, Pb, HNO3, BaCOs, H2SO4, hot water, (CH3)2S04, dibromomalononitrile, sulfuric acid. Incompatible with acids, ammonium chloride + trichloroacetonitrile, phosgene, cyanuric chloride, 2,5-dinitro-3-methylbenzoic acid + oleum, trifiuroroacryloyl chloride. Reacts with heavy metals (e.g., brass, copper, lead) to form dangerously explosive heavy metal azides, a particular problem in laboratory equipment and drain traps. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NOx and Na20. See also AZIDES. 

The reaction of phosgene with copper has been used to purify boron(III) chloride (see Section 9.1.2.2) [1218a]. Copper does not react with phosgene at room temperature [735], but does react between 260 and 400 C, with an activation energy of 100 kJ mol, to give copper(I) chloride [809] ... 

AZIDA SODICA (Spanish) (26628-22-8) Reacts with hot water. Explosive decomposition in elevated temperatures above 525°F/274°C. Forms ultra-sensitive explosive compounds with heavy metals copper, copper alloys, lead, silver, mercury, carbon disulfide, trifluoroacryloyl fluoride. Violent reaction with acids, forming explosive hydrogen azide. Violent reaction with bromine, barium carbonate, chromyl chloride, dimethyl sulfate, dibromomalononitrile. Incompatible with caustics, cyanuric chloride, metal oxides, metal sulfides, methyl azide, phosgene.
