Copolymer characteristics

Mitsui Chemicals, Cyclo olefin copolymer characteristics, [electronic ] http //www.mitsuichemicals.com/apel cha.htm, 2008. [Pg.71]

In addition to the above mentioned dynamic problems of copolymerization theory this review naturally dwells on more traditional statistical problems of calculation of instantaneous composition, parameters of copolymer molecular structure and composition distribution. The manner of presentation of the material based on the formalism of Markov s chains theory allows one to calculate in the uniform way all the above mentioned copolymer characteristics for the different kinetic models by means of elementary arithmetical operations. In Sect. 3 which is devoted to these problems, one can also find a number of original results concerning the statistical description of the copolymers produced through the complex radical mechanism. [Pg.5]

The first important question we need to answer is how the monomer feed composition x(p) will be changed with conversion at various initial values 5° and the parameters of kinetic copolymerization model. When such a trajectory x(p) is known, on the base of the formulae (5.1), (5.3), and (5.7) one can find the main statistical copolymer characteristics at any number of its components within the framework of the chosen kinetic model. [Pg.35]

When the copolymerization is carried out under real conditions, each researcher is to answer a question which kinetic model is preferable for the proper description of the experimental data. One should also know the validity of the model under consideration, the numerical values of its parameters, and the expected accuracy of the calculated copolymer characteristics predicted within the framework of this model. Modern experimental methods for analyzing the copolymer composition... [Pg.54]

As it follows from the present review, a rather complete and experimentally well-grounded quantitative theory of radical copolymerization of an arbitrary number of monomers has been developed. This theory allows one to calculate various statistical copolymers characteristics using the known values of reactivity ratios. The modern stage of the development of this theory is characterized by new approaches applying, for example, the apparatus of graph theory and theory of the dynamic systems which permit to widen the area of theoretical consideration involving the multicomponent copolymerization at high conversions. [Pg.92]

Rod—coil block copolymers have both rigid rod and block copolymer characteristics. The formation of liquid crystalline nematic phase is characteristic of rigid rod, and the formation of various nanosized structures is a block copolymer characteristic. A theory for the nematic ordering of rigid rods in a solution has been initiated by Onsager and Flory,28-29 and the fundamentals of liquid crystals have been reviewed in books.30 31 The theoretical study of coil-coil block copolymer was initiated by Meier,32 and the various geometries of microdomains and micro phase transitions are now fully understood. A phase diagram for a structurally symmetric coil—coil block copolymer has been theoretically predicted as a... [Pg.30]

In this paper we will discuss evidence for the existence of CTC s of styrene and acrylonitrile and the resultant differences in the copolymer produced from them. We will also report the preparation of copolymers with block copolymer characteristics from poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) macroradicals prepared in tert-butyl alcohol. This solvent is a poor solvent for the macroradical and exhibits a very low chain transfer constant (28). The copolymers reported in this paper were prepared in the absence and presence of zinc chloride (ZnCU), and the effect of ZnClz on the reactivity of the macroradical will be discussed. [Pg.107]

The following copolymer characteristics have been studied by H NMR (Ron et al., 1991), the degree of randomness that suggests whether the polyanhydride is either a random or block copolymer, the average length of sequence (Ln), and the frequency of occurrence of specific comonomer sequences. Copolymers of l,3-bis(carboxyphenoxypropane) (CPP) and sebacic acid (SA) were used as... [Pg.153]

EP copolymers are obtained through polymerization promoted by Ziegler-Natta-type catalysts. A Ziegler-Natta catalyst polymerizes olefins by inserting them into a metal-carbon bond. As a consequence, the exact structure of the catalytic site, determined by the interaction between the organometallic complex and the growing polymer chain, has a dramatic influence on the insertion reaction and hence on copolymer characteristics. [Pg.314]

The thermoplastic elastomer polyurethanes, TPU, may be of two general types partly crystalline elastic fibers (see preceding paragraph) or softer elastomers, depending on the relative length of the soft segment. Those polyurethanes based on polyester soft segments tend to be more resistant to hydrocarbons, while the polyether types are more resistant to hydrolysis but tend to swell more in aqueous environments (144). The block copolymer characteristics of polyurethanes are discussed further in Chapter 13. [Pg.484]

Polypeptides are a class of polymers that can show copolymer characteristics with either chemically different repeating units or by exhibiting a special type of geometric isomerism. The chemical formula for a portion of a polypeptide chain can be written as... [Pg.163]

Quite a number of theories were developed over the years in order to predict, mainly for non-polyelectrolyte systems, the structural parameters of a micelle (CMC, association number Z, core radius shell thickness L, hydrodynamic radius as a function of the copolymer characteristics, for example its molecular weight and composition. For A-B diblock copolymers which were mainly examined and where the B sequence is forming the micellar core, these characteristics are defined by the corresponding polymerization degrees and Ng. In all these theories and by using various models and mathematical approaches, the total Gibbs free energy of the micelle is expressed as the sum of several contributions, mainly those related to the core the shell and the core/shell interface... [Pg.196]

Copolymers of styrene-, olefins-, vin d acetate-, and alkyl vinyl ether-MA were introduced commercially to fill the need for resins of low viscosity, water solubility, and high functionality. The aforesaid properties and other copolymer characteristics made for a wide range of possible uses for these materials. In this review on uses, we make no attempt to completely separate out the current uses from past and potential applications. [Pg.443]

The spherical micelles (Fig. 2.1) are the most extensively studied polymeric self-assembled stmctures. They represent the simplest and most widespread aggregate morphology. Cylindrical micelles as well as polymer vesicles (poly-mersomes) are less frequently observed (Fig. 2.1), whereas complex stmctures such as toroids, helices, multicore and multicompartment micelles, disks, tubules are considered as more or less exotic stmctures. Worth mentioning is the phenomenon of coexisting morphologies, which is believed to derive from a number of inherent for the synthetic copolymers characteristics, e.g., dispersity in molar mass. [Pg.20]
