Figure 8-100 is convenient for arriving at weir lengths relative to their effect on segmental downcomers. [Pg.134]

In addition to visualizing the crystallization process, we also seek to determine the effect of varying the chain length relative to the lamellar thickness. Since the inclusion of chain ends inside the crystal is energetically unfavorable (akin to the inclusion of impurities), we can choose a case where the chain length is not an integer multiple of the lamellar thickness and see how the chain is accommodated on the growth front. [Pg.256]

The geometrical parameters determined by electron diffraction are summarized in Table 3. Consider the difference between the Al-N and Ga-N coordination bond lengths relative to the difference between the metal-chlorine bond lengths,... [Pg.60]

Since fiber pull-out length, p , is difficult to measure with any accuracy from the fracture surface of composite specimens containing high V(, Rpo is often expressed in terms of the inherent properties of the composite constituents. There are three cases considered here depending on the fiber length relative to the critical transfer length. [Pg.244]

The drops in the river bed as well as surface waves significantly increase the effective area of gas exchange per unit river length relative to the geometric value, wx. [Pg.1144]

A membrane reactor preceded or followed bv a conventional reactor. Consider a typical commercial porous membrane currently available that exhibits a moderate to low gas separation factor and a high gas permeance even for the gas intended to be the retentate. Much of this less permeable gas in the feed stream is lost to the permeate (low pressure) side in the entrance section of the reactor due to its high partial pressure difference across the membrane layer. This leads to the undesirable effect of a low reactant conversion in that section. An effective way of reducing this reactant loss is to have a membrane enclosed section preceded by an impermeable reaction zone. To achieve a maximum total conversion, the impermeable length relative to the membrane length needs to be optimized. [Pg.546]

Features - continuous stirred tank reactors with agitators are used - multiple reactor zones typically used - polymerization takes place in "solution" - organic peroxides typically used as initiators - polymer has fewer branches but of somewhat longer length relative to tubular process... [Pg.91]
