Copolymerization condensation

VDP Polyimides. Polyimide films have also been prepared by a kind of VDP (16). The poly(amic acid) layer is first formed by the coevaporation and condensation of two monomers, followed by copolymerization on the substrate. The imidization is carried out in a separate baking step (see POLYIMIDES). [Pg.430]

Free-radical copolymerizations have been performed ia bulb (comonomers without solvent), solution (comonomers with solvent), suspension (comonomer droplets suspended ia water), and emulsion (comonomer emulsified ia water). On the other hand, most ionic and coordination copolymerizations have been carried out either ia bulb or solution, because water acts as a poison for many ionic and coordination catalysts. Similarly, few condensation copolymerizations iavolve emulsion or suspension processes. The foUowiag reactions exemplify the various copolymerization mechanisms. [Pg.179]

Apart from poly(ethylene glycol), other hydroxyl-terminated polymers and low-molecular weight compounds were condensed with ACPC. An interesting example is the reaction of ACPC with preformed poly(bu-tadiene) possessing terminal OH groups [26]. The reaction was carried out in chloroform solution and (CH3CH2)3N was used as a catalyst. MAIs based on butadiene thus obtained were used for the thermally induced block copolymerization with styrene [26] and dimethyl itaconate [27]. [Pg.738]

By means of a ring-opening polymerization of the condensation type Vlasov et al. [50] synthesized polypeptide based MAIs with azo groups in the polymeric backbone. The method is based on the reaction of a hydracide derivative of AIBN and a N-carboxy anhydride. Containing one central azo group in the polymer main chain, the polymeric azo initiator was used for initiating block copolymerizations of styrene and various methacrylamides. [Pg.740]

Apart from the mentioned advantages, the polymeric reagents covalently adsorbed by silica also diminish its inherent non-specific adsorptivity. One of the ways to synthesize a polymeric modifier of this type is a copolymerization of a vinylsilane with a compound of the desired functionality. The segments carrying silyl groups will condense with the surface silanols forming anchors or trains . [Pg.148]

Phenol, formaldehyde, and urea have been copolymerized to achieve resins and subsequent networks with improved flame retardance and lower cost relative to phenol-formaldehyde analogues. The condensation of a phenolic methylol group with urea (Fig. 7.32) is believed to be the primary reaction under the weakly acidic conditions normally used. [Pg.410]

If the condensation proceeds far enough, a network structure is easily formed. Similarly, copolymerization of a little divinyl adipate with vinyl acetate yields a nonlinear polymer in which chains of bifunctional vinyl acetate units are bridged, or cross-linked, by the tetrofunctional divinyl adipate units, as indicated on the following page, where the divinyl adipate unit is enclosed between vertical dashed lines ... [Pg.32]

Nonlinear addition polymers are readily obtained by copolymerizing a divinyl compound (e.g., divinylbenzene) with the vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene), as already mentioned. Products so obtained exhibit the insolubility and other characteristics of space-network structures and are entirely analogous structurally to the space-network polymers produced by the condensation of polyfunctional compounds. Owing to... [Pg.54]

Poly( w-carborane-siloxane) rubbers are most commonly prepared by a ferric chloride-catalyzed bulk condensation copolymerization of dichloro- and dimethoxy-terminated monomers with alkylchloro- or arylchloro-siloxanes.16... [Pg.99]

Graft copolymerization can be initiated by physical or chemical processes. This paper describes methods for chemical initiation of grafting onto cellulosic fibers with special emphasis on recent developments, i.e. studies from the last 10-15 years. The initiation reactions may be free radical or ionic processes. The grafting reaction may also be a condensation or addition process. [Pg.253]

Siloxane containing block or segmented copolymers can be synthesized either by living anionic polymerization of the cyclic organosiloxane trimers with appropriate vinyl monomer(, 4 ) or by step-growth or condensation copolymerization of preformed a,w-difunctional siloxane oligomers with conventional difunctional... [Pg.161]
