Scope and Contents

I have been particularly helped in the compilation of this book by family, friends, and colleagues. Professor R. B. King first suggested the project, and Drs. E. E. M. Tyler, G. J. Tilley, and R. D. Tilley made suggestions about contents and scope. Professor F. S. Stone offered encouragement and kindly offered to read sections in... [Pg.548]

The content and scope of each test are specified and reviewed periodically by the committee of examiners. Test questions are written by the committee and by other faculty who are also subject-matter specialists and by subject-matter specialists at ETS. All questions proposed for the test are reviewed by the committee and revised as necessary. The accepted questions are assembled into a test in accordance with the content specifications developed by the committee to ensure adequate coverage of the various aspects of the field and, at the same time, to prevent overemphasis on any single topic. The entire test is then reviewed and approved by the committee. [Pg.3]

Owing to the comprehensiveness of specific technical information such as respective FSAR chapters, EOF background documents, supporting thermal-hydraulic analysis, etc., it may be necessary to study some documentation in advance. The content and scope of such information, which will be made available to the review team, needs to be agreed upon beforehand and should reflect the intended scope of the review. [Pg.50]

As the handbook will be published as an 8-volume series, over a period of 4 years, I will have time to adjust its content and scope (as mentioned above). Therefore, if the reader feels there are other subjects that I — and the contributing authors — should study, please let me know and we will do our best to address these issues (for example, with regard to new and important applications, new chemical types, etc.). [Pg.10]

Here we treat it as a model one. However, the arguments about this matter can result in the design of interesting experiments, whose aims and scope are to test and improve admisssible schemes for rather complicated equations of acoustics, kinematic integrodifferential equations of neutron transfer, nonlinear equations of gas dynamics, etc. Because of the enormous range and variety of problems dealt with by mathematical physics, the contents of this section would be of the methodological merit. [Pg.354]

The text develops an understanding of the relevance of four fundamental properties of the analyte shape, polarity, charge and size, to the three key types of analysis separation, identification and quantification. The third edition of Analytical Biochemistry has been fully updated in content and format, making it even more accessible to students learning how to select analytical techniques and recognise their scope and limitations. [Pg.489]

Other coal gasifiers, eg Shell-Koppers and Texaco, have been commercially tested elsewhere. These operate at higher temperatures than the Lurgi reactors and consequently produce a gas with a lower CH. content and a lower H2/CO ratio. They use less steam but more oxygen. A discussion of xhe pros and cons of the various coal gasifiers is beyond the scope of this review. [Pg.21]

But, oblivious to all of this, Massengill manufactured and distributed 240 gallons of Elixir Sulfanilamide in September of 1937. By October reports of deaths had come in, but the company refused to shoulder any of the blame. Massengill spokesmen maintained that they had broken no laws. Furthermore, they refused to divulge the contents of the formula because it was a trade secret. Finally, under pressure from the American Medical Association, the company revealed that the eUxir contained diethylene glycol. The nature and scope of the problem was now clear, and the American Medical Association, the fda, and the media joined forces in a massive effort to track down as much of the elixir as possible. They were astonishingly successful 234 of the 240 gallons were recovered. [Pg.269]

Because of the close relationship to Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry the Foreword, Contents and Introduction to the complete work, which appear in Volume I of the set, have been reprinted in the Handbook. The Foreword outlines the scope, significance and aim of the whole work, whereas the Introduction describes the plan of the work and the novel features it incorporates. [Pg.8]

Properties of Diastereomers In contrast to enantiomeric pairs, the correpond-ing spatial distances in diastereomeric pairs are not all identical. For example, errand trans-1,2-difluoroethene (Figure 1.2.4), differ in their F-F and H-H distances. This results into different energy contents and different properties between diastereomeric molecules. The difference in properties of diastereomers is illustrated with cis- and trans-1-phenyl-1,3-butadiene, which show markedly different physicochemical properties [12] (Figure 1.2.5). Further investigation of stereochemical isomers is beyond the scope of this book, and discussion in subsequent chapters is limited to constitutional isomers. [Pg.8]

Table 2.3 presents a summary of the Annexes to EEC regulation 2568/91 and successive additions and amendments. Additional information has been inserted into the original summary format with indications of the purpose and scope of the content of each Annex. Annex I is a table gathering all the characteristic qualitative and quantitative data of the nine olive oil categories. [Pg.33]

Most of the mass spectrometry journal sites contain tables of contents and abstracts. Many of these sites offer on-line access to the full articles although it is typically restricted to subscribers only. General information such as aims and scope, editorial board, instructions to authors, contact and subscription information are also found on these sites ... [Pg.477]
