We plan to start a completely new index which will list authors who have written chapters in the series. This will also be cumulative, and will appear in every fifth volume. [Pg.3]

The series has not for many years possessed a subject index. In a series of this type in which any one volume contains contributions on a number of disparate topics, a subject index covering a single volume is not especially useful. However, a subject index appearing periodically should be of considerably greater utility to readers. Therefore, with Volume 40, subject indexes will appear in every fifth volume. The subject index for Volume 40 will be cumulative, covering Volumes 1-40 subsequent subject indices will cover just the preceding five volumes, e.g., that of Volume 45 will cover Volumes 41-45. [Pg.3]

I have incurred many debts of gratitude to Prof E. J. Corey of Harvard University, who envisioned this project in the summer of 2002. What he once told me — The desire to learn is the greatest gift from God. —has been a true inspiration. Furthermore, it has been my greatest privilege as well as a pleasure to work with a stellar collection of contributing authors from both academia and industry. Some of them are world-renowned scholars in the field some of them have worked intimately with the name reactions that they have written some of them even took part in the discovery of the name reactions that they authored in this manuscript. As a consequence, this book truly represents the state-of-the-art for Name Reactions in Heterocyclic Chemistry. We will follow up with the second volume to complete the series on heterocyclic chemistry. [Pg.566]

Inviting contributing authors to write essays about their current or recent research. There are four new essays for the end-of-chapter sections called Chemistry Beyond the Classroom. ... [Pg.723]

All the contributing authors as well as the editors have taken great care to provide up-to-date information. However, inconsistencies or errors may remain, for which we assume full responsibility. We welcome comments, suggestions or corrections and look forward to a stimulating dialog with the readers of the Encyclopedic Reference of Molecular Pharmacology> whether their comments concern the content of an individual entry or the entire concept. [Pg.1510]

We would like to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of the 161 contributing authors and 145 reviewers of the chapters contained in this text (a list of contributors and a list of reviewers are included in the frontmatter of this book). We also extend our thanks to the McGraw-Hill Medical Publishing Division, especially Michael Brown, Maya Barahona, and Robert Pancotti, for their dedication to this project. Finally, we thank our... [Pg.1716]

Both books could only be completed with the assistance of the individual contributing authors. Their efforts cannot be underestimated, and the editor wishes to express his heartfelt appreciation. [Pg.8]

Thanks to the editors and all contributing authors for their time and efforts in preparing this comprehensive compilation of research papers that will make this book on molecular characterization and analysis of polymers a unique reference in this field. [Pg.784]

Funding for the conference came from the ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry the Petroleum Research Fund, administered by the ACS and the Alfa Products Division of Morton Thiokol, Inc. Portions of travel expenses were borne by AT T Bell Laboratories BBC-Brown, Boveri Co. Exxon Research and Engineering and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. The conference would not have occurred without the generous support of these organizations. Finally, I wish to thank all of the contributing authors, whose cooperation and timeliness have been greatly appreciated. [Pg.5]

The editors owe a great debt of gratitude to the contributing authors, all of whom have invested significant time and effort in order to share their wisdom and insight. [Pg.358]

The selection of essential topics and expert authors was not an easy task. We tried to include the most representative applications of CL and BL in analytical chemistry. The contributors were invited to elaborate on the subjects according to their knowledge and experience in the field, and we think we have succeeded in unifying the contents of the overall volume. We heartily thank the contributing authors for agreeing to collaborate on this project their efforts led to the comprehensive structure of this book. [Pg.632]

I wish to acknowledge the cooperation and patience of the contributing authors, the assistance of my colleagues with the task of refereeing the chapter manuscripts, the forbearance and understanding of the book s publishers, and the contribution of Dr. Frederick S. Baker in soliciting chapters in the area of activated carbons. [Pg.16]

When Sam Enna, the series editor, wrote and asked me to edit a book on hallucinogenic drugs, I told him I would do it if one critical condition was met I would have to obtain the agreement of the leading scientists in this field to contribute chapters. If even as few as two or three refused to undertake writing yet another chapter, the project, at least with me as editor, would be dropped. I am happy to say, and as the reader can plainly see from the list of contributing authors to this volume, that most of the scientists that I contacted agreed. [Pg.127]

This chapter is an introduction to methods-oriented microscopy. Because the contributing authors present methods in relation to their researches, plant cell structure-function relationships as revealed by light and electron microscopies are reviewed. Much of this conceptual and terminological information is summarized in tables that are augmented with references to either photomicrographs or electron micrographs of cells and tissues. [Pg.13]

We would hke to thank all the contributing authors for their manuscripts. They represent a wide variety of views and expertise. The support of Elsevier in publishing this book should also be acknowledged. Finally, we hope that this book will contribute in a small way to the evolution of product design in chemical engineering practice and education. [Pg.503]
