Constructive layers

As briefly described previously in this chapter, layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly is a versatile method for construction of layered structures from various materials.48,49 Therefore, the LbL technique should be a very useful method for constructing layered mesoscopic structures. The LbL assembly concept was first suggested by Iler,50 but realized and established by Decher and coworkers.51 An outline of this technique is shown in Figure 2.12, where assembly between a cationic polyelectrolyte and anionic... [Pg.23]

In this technique, a wax-like material, which is solid at room temperature, is melted and deposited by inkjet onto a substrate. The wax solidifies upon cooling, before a new layer of liquid wax is deposited. Support constructions are built in the same way as model construction layers and use the same material. [Pg.260]

Any ionic polymer with a flexible structure can be used to construct layer-by-layer thin films. Common polyanions are poly(sodium acrylate) and proteins at pH higher than their isoelectric points. Common polycations are protonated polyamines and poly(quaternary ammonium ions) such as poly(4-vinylpyridine hydrochloride) and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride). [Pg.403]

The rainwater is divided into infiltration, surface runoff and evaporation at the boundary layer surface. Preferably, the bound layers should be impervious and redirect rainwater as surface runoff so that infiltration into the pavement is minimized. However, due to deformities the boundary layers may be an important pathway for water entering the unbound layers. The infiltration capacity depends on the permeability of the pavement and underlying construction layers and presence of cracks and other local deformities of the pavement [13]. If no deformities are present the infiltration capacity for asphalt is typically in the... [Pg.308]

The layer description can also be applied to structures based on infinite chains or sheets, or on frameworks. Such a layer description consists of slicing the structure into atomic layers which, in general, coincide with the plane direction of highest density of atoms. These layers, called "constructive layers", are formed by the packing atoms and the interstitial atoms which are immediately above them, so that the interstitial atoms which are below will pertain to the constructive layers located underneath. The stacking of constructive layers completely generates the original crystal structure. [Pg.125]

Generally, each of the constructed layers consisting of materials having different mechanical properties is considered as a distinct structural layer. [Pg.491]

After the overburden is removed, layers of clay are formed into disks and allowed to sundry before removal. The clay is removed from the pit in layers, and the ensuing stockpile is constructed layer by layer. This construction is done in an exacting manner to maximize crude day homogenization. [Pg.179]

One more class of nanoobjects that can be embedded in capsule shells are single- and multiwalled carbon nanotubes which are found to demonstrate some remarkable optical, electrical and mechanical properties. The ability to construct layer-by-layer assemblies with nanotubes was shown some time ago. Also, it was shown that one could construct CNT-nanoparticles composites. Thus it is perspective to investigate the ability to create polyelectrolyte microcapsules with nanotubes embedded in their shells. [Pg.142]

The site trials were earned in July 2006 and the constructed layers evaluated until Febmaiy 2007. [Pg.324]

Figure 87 shows the layout of the construction layers designed for the site trial. This design was similar to that of the existing layers of constructed car park area in order to provide comparable data for the conventional sub-bases and the RCC layer. [Pg.327]

The trial included two major works undertaken to evaluate the feasibility and perfomiance of the Coventiy Binder for use in soil stabilisation and also as a binder itself. The construction layers of the 22 metres of temporary access road were designed to compare conventional cement stabilised soil and bituminous base course layers with Coventiy Binder stabilised soil and semi-diy compacted paste (grout). Figure 98 shows the layout of the designed layers for each section of the trial access road. [Pg.332]
