Consolidants, application

Magnetic materials are widely used in industrial sector, that seeks innovative applications e.g. magnetic composites based in NR), and also the enhancement of already consolidated applications e.g. the use of magnetic particles in cores of transformers and electronic devices). Likewise, this material class is investigated in academic sector to optimize production processes making them economically viable and also seeking new properties and applications. [Pg.460]

The review of the data portion of the Indian Point 2 (IP2) and 3 (IPS) PRA (a 1982 internal document prepared by Consolidated Edison and the New York Power Authority) is confined to the plant-specific and generic component failure and service hour data sections because these were the only segments available to the reviewers. The LERs produced during a ten-year span of IP2 s operation were evaluated to determine their applicability to the PRA data needs. It was eventually decided to use only the LERs generated after IP2 became critical (from May 23, 1973 to December 31, 1979) for the component data base development, based on the availability of failure event information and more uniform operability, testing, and reporting criteria. [Pg.119]

The early promise of wide applications for beryllium has not materialised, despite improvements in purity and more efficient means of consolidation such as isostatic hot pressing, because of the metal s toxicity, brittleness and cost. It is now chiefly of interest in the specialised fields of aerospace and nuclear applications. BrushWellman is currently the sole commercial primary producer of beryllium metal in the West. [Pg.836]

R. McClelland I might add a couple of comments to that. Certainly, Consolidated Natural Gas as well as a number of other mid-Westem utilities are looking at medium Btu gas for some applications. But these are typically in locations where you have a high density of large commercial or industrial consumers that can burn low Btu gas. Certainly, from the comments that I have heard in the utility industry, I think Bill Bair is right. For residential and commercial applications, to the extent the gas industry has to increase supplies beyond that which might be displaced by medium Btu industrial gas substitution, we will certainly need methanation. [Pg.169]

Poly(acrylic acid) and its salts have been known to have useful binding properties for some thirty years they have been used for soil consolidation (Lambe Michaels, 1954 Hopkins, 1955 Wilson Crisp, 1977) and as a flocculant (Woodberry, 1961). The most interesting of these applications is the in situ polymerization of calcium acrylate added to soil (de Mello, Hauser Lambe, 1953). But here we are concerned with cements formed from these polyacids. [Pg.90]

Another method of sand control is use of a silicon halide which reacts with water at the surface of sand grains forms SiO which can bond the grains together (55). Reducing the cost of sand consolidation could be very useful since the applicability of gravel packing methods is limited by the bottom hole circulating temperature and the limited temperature stability of polysaccharide polymers. [Pg.16]

The Health Sector (Food, Agriculture, and Pharmacy industries) has received the greatest impact of biotechnologies both, social and economical. Therefore, the chemical applications of biology to this sector have deeply contributed to that consolidation, leading the development of biotechnologies to a mature state. A list of biotechnological companies, exclusively associated to the Food and Pharmacy industries is included in Table 1. Those companies are not analyzed in this book and are only included for completeness purposes and to prevent the oil reader of useless search. [Pg.228]

The range of application of shear cell testing methodology is seen in Tables 2-6. Table 3 relates the flow properties of mixtures of spray-dried lactose and bolted lactose. These mixtures, in combination with the excipients tested, cover a broad range of flow. Tables 4 and 5, for example, show lot to lot variations in the flow properties of several materials, and Table 6 shows the variation in flow properties of bolted starch, sucrose, and phenacetin at different relative humidities (RH). Figure 8 presents the yield loci of sucrose at four different consolidation loads. Also shown in the figure are the shear indices determined at each consolidation load. [Pg.302]

Each of the volumes of the Chemical Engineering Series includes numerical examples to illustrate the application of the theory presented in the text. In addition, at the end of each volume, there is a selection of problems which the reader is invited to solve in order to consolidate his (or her) understanding of the principles and to gain a better appreciation of the order of magnitude of the quantities involved. [Pg.8]
