Conical tank

Pressure Leaf Filters Sometimes called tank filters, they consist of flat filtering elements (leaves) supported in a pressure shell. The leaves are circ ilar, arc-sided, or rectangular, and they have filtering surfaces on both faces. The shell is a cylindrical or conical tank. Its axis may be horizontal or vertical, and the filter type is described by its shell axis orientation. 

Tanks with conical bottoms discharge cakes by gravity and those with dished bottoms have a spade that rakes and conveys the cake towards the outlet. Hence, the conical types require more headroom as compared to the dished type having the same filtration area. Conical tanks also have often an additional scavenging plate at the lower part of the cone to filter the residual slurry heel that remains below the main plates. The slurry heel that remains at the very bottom of the tank is removed through a special dip pipe to avoid discharging a wet cake. To facilitate better cake...

Another geon etry that can be useful to consider is that of the conical tank. The analysis is similar to that of the triangular trough, except that the cone is axially symmetric. This makes some difference in the outcome. The geometry for the tank is shown here in Figure 5. 

It is difficult to generalize with regard to vessel geometry but some observations are made on the use of cylindro-conical tanks (see pp. 659-668). Probably the most important dimension is depth because this affects not only (i) yeast sedimentation but also (//) carbon-dioxide bubble generation per unit area, (in) hydrostatic pressure effects on carbon-dioxide evolution and (/v) circulation currents in the vessel.

Volume reduction of concentrated evaporator bottoms, which may include boric acid wastes, laundry wastes, chemical wastes, and other floor drain wastes, is accomplished in the radwaste volume reduction system. The major components of the system are the crystallizer chamber and recirculation system, condenser, and vacuum pump system. The crystallizer chamber consists of a conical tank and an inner circular baffle to separate solid crystals from a clear recycle stream. Combustible wastes such as clothing, filter cartridges, and wood are volume-reduced in the radwaste incinerator. Solidification of volume-reduced wastes and other low-level radioactive wastes, such as spent resins and contaminated tools, is performed in the cement solidification system. The major components of the cement solidification system include the high shear radwaste mixer, waste dispensing system, flush water recycle steam, cement storage and feed system, and the container handling system.
