Flow in hoppers depends on their type (gravitational or forced), bulk density of the material, the shape and location of the feed inlet (direct or tangential feed, straight or with a chamfer on the down-going side), as well as on the type of screw and the barrel. [Pg.607]

Tangential feeds, often with helical baffles, are commonly used with high-velocity feeds in which the vapor phase is continuous and the liquid is present in the form of a spray (143). These arrangements are discussed in detail in Sec. 2.2 (arrangement j). [Pg.79]

Furthermore, the tangential uncut chip thickness varies according to a conventional milling process. The maximum value is then equal to the tangential feed per tooth. However, for the continuous cut, the undeformed chip thickness as well as the undeformed chip width is constant. The undeformed chip width is equal to half of the tool diameter. These values have to be known to calculate the machining forces. [Pg.415]

The feed port is the opening in the feed throat. Standard feed ports are round or square, and these parts are suitable for plastics pellets and some granules. An undercut feed port, which exposes the bottom of the screw, is used for rolls and strips of film or fiber, for film soap, and for polymer melts. A sloped feed port is better suited to irregularly shaped particles, whereas a tangential feed port can be used for powders and regrinds. [Pg.178]

Gramilaflon/Ground Plastic The size reduction of plastic containers to approximate 3/8" or less particle sizes. Granulators have rotating and stationary knives that cut the material. The most efficient nxxleis have a tangential feed with blades positioned to produce a scissor-like cut. Capacities range from a few hundred pounds to 5,000 pounds per hour. [Pg.201]
