On the opposite end of the feedback spectrum is a personal attack. A personal attack is negative and destructive. The only positives that may be gained from this type of feedback are to know the attacker s stance and improve your conflict management skills by diffusing the situation. The information given in a personal attack is based on emotion, personality, and communication style rather than any performance-related issue. There may or may not be facts present in the attack, which may be perpetrated in public or in private. [Pg.128]

Not all people are adept at conflict management. It requires skills on the part of fhe parfy handling fhe situation. Fortunately, these skills can be learned. Remember FILS — perception, integrity, listening skill. [Pg.123]

To be an effective conflict manager, you must enter each situation with the same mind set. You have to be confident and project that confidence to those with whom you are in conflict. A sure way to fake confidence you do not feel is to maintain good posture and eye contact. Along with confidence, you must be enthusiastic. Apathy will get you nowhere if you are trying to resolve differences. Be a skilled listener. Practice discriminative listening at every opportunity. Make yourself understood. Use clear and concise communication. Know your influence. [Pg.135]

Conflict management tends to be an overlooked skill. Yet it is critically important to the success of your safety effort. There will always be conflict in the daily life of a manager. However, having the ability to maintain control in all types of circumstances is key to effective conflict management. [Pg.42]

In the section entitled Input Mechanisms , the first chapter discusses the integration of crew resource management studies into modem pilot training methods. The authors from the German Aerospace Center show that skills in leadership, conflict management and other interpersonal competences are required next to excellence in technical knowledge and flying skill. These advances in pilot selection are illustrated with one of the latest assessment center methods that feature empirical tests to show their effectiveness. [Pg.3]

Safe and effective performance in aviation, for example pilot proficiency, demands not only excellent technical knowledge, but also pronoimced interpersonal competence, which includes the selection and distribution of information, cooperative goal orientation and of course decision making. Moreover, skills in leadership and conflict management are required (Maschke and Rother, 2006). [Pg.7]

For most children and adolescents, multimodal therapies are recommended. However, if antidepressant medications are used alone, psychosocial maintenance strategies should be implemented to help the patient manage inner and interpersonal conflicts, improve coping and social skills, deal with the psychosocial and personal scars left by the depression, and improve academic and social functioning. The reduction of family stress, promotion of a supportive environment, and the effective treatment of parents and siblings with psychiatric disorders may also help diminish the risk for... [Pg.480]

Extroversion skills are continually called for in managing in everyday interactions with staff, in networking, making presentations, enlisting support for projects, in dealing with conflict and opposition, and in encouraging and enthusing people. [Pg.49]

Only a handful of providers are pursuing this approach. Two midsized CROs and several small CROs currently own and operate site networks. There are a number of criticisms of the hybrid SMO approach. Several industry observers have commented that project management and study conduct services require unique and distinct skill sets that cannot be integrated. Others argue that the hybrid SMO has been slow to catch on, because a conflict of interest exists when investigative sites are monitored by the same company that owns them. Several industry observers believe the hybrid SMO will be unable to pursue a sizable portion of the overall clinical grants market because it competes with traditional CROs that are reluctant to place studies there. Therefore, the hybrid SMO may have constrained growth potential. [Pg.461]
